Another way of putting it: if you purified caffeine, that'd be poisonous too.

Not quite as poisonous as nicotine, but still poisonous.

There's nicotine in tomatoes, aubergines (eggplants), and all kinds of other vegetables. More or less nobody tests negative for nicotine (maybe you could find an Eskimo or somebody who did, who knows...)

Some substances have "no safe dose", and any ingestion of them is harmful. But most things considered poisonous aren't measurably harmful in a small enough dose.

1 mg absorbed through skin, can KILL a child. 40-60mg, an adult dies. It's a question of DOSAGE, or amount of nicotine per unit time. That is a ONE time dosage, NOT spread out over many hours. There are other tress whos alkaloids are so poisonous, that ONE drop can kill, or drive insane, such as the Brugmansia, or the Inverted Trumpet. A tomato plant believe it or not, has alkaloids present in the greens, (Stalk), that can cause dreadful hallucinations, severe illness, and yes, even DEATH under the right circumstances. Eat the fruit, NOT the greens!

P.S. when working with powdered Nic., I wear a whole body suit, like a radiation Chicken suit, and a forced air resperator. Face shield, and complete eye protection. The soft membranes of the eyes, are prime targets for exposure to toxins/bacteria etc.

Ok... Nicotine is not good for you.. I will say that straight out. It raises your blood pressure, and is fatal in comparatively low doses compared to other drugs, thus making it "poisonous" in high concentrates. it is NOT as safe as caffeine on a 1:1 basis.

Now, with that being said, regulation is the key. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug that can alter your mood. If you were to go to the store, and bought some Vanilla Extract, most vanilla extracts are made with %65 alcohol... and you can get alcohol poisoning. But there is no warning labels on the extract, and you're not asked for I.D. when you buy it. Why? because the typical dosage does not warrant any concern. the same could be said for vaping Electronic cigarettes. They dilute the Nicotine so much, as to not warrant a major concern. in low doses, it is harmless.

So, there are tonnes of "ifs" and "buts" in that blanket statement. you said. in most Ecigs and "normal usage" of ecigs, the nicotine is as safe as normal usage of Caffeine in a normal caffeinated product. However, do not touch pure nicotine, or do not take a lot of pure caffeine...both can be deadly.

Here's an interesting write up on the subject. Attempting to commit suicide with E-Liquids: Witless! » Zwischen und hinter den Zeilen

To be clear, I'm definitely not saying it's awesome to go out and drink nicotine or take a bath in your juice. I do think the currently accepted lethal dose is too low, and based on unscientific tests performed ages ago. If one was to want to kill themselves, nicotine is not a great way to do it. You can google and find some personal testimonies of people who tried by extracting their own. Most seem to have had very unpleasant, but not permanently damaging outcomes. Of course, there have been some successful nicotine suicides, usually involving other drugs as well (usually in the attempt to prevent vomiting which would expel the nicotine from the body).

The key word in Botox is toxic yet it is now used for not only facial change but as a preventative for migraines.
As posted above it's about the proper dosage.
I won't even get into the toxins and poisons people ingest on a daily basis in their foods and drinks.
