The FDA case failed in the state supreme court. As for the e-cigarette ban. that will take effect. But not right away. It becomes enforceable 180 days after the bill passed. Remember the runny egg law. Hope this one joins it. But ether way, I personally will continue to vape and give all the ...... in Trenton a good old fashion Jersey Salute wile I vape.

This is insane, how can I live in a state run by such .........
This is by far the worst state in the union because of all the crap we have to deael with. And besides Corzine, U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg is the biggest jerk around 8-o. None of these polititians have any clue nor do they even care. It makes me sick. We'd all be better off in Bum Idaho.

I'm still vaping! SCREW THIS STATE AND ALL THE ASSES THAT RUN IT!
They know exactly what they're doing. It's either peoples health for $0.00 or it's Big tabacco campaign contributions (which now have no limit as of court ruling) plus the tax dollars the state makes and keeps increasing from tabacco sales. It's a no brainer. Just remember this at election time.

ya im still vaping at my job. i was told just "dont vape in the front," which i still do. in fact my boss smokes and now wants to get a PV :D. when i called the govoners office they said we have to basicly bombard Vitale, and Gordon, with e-mails, calls, and letters. my vote is the latter due to mail can clutter there inboxes. now my question is. is there a petition in the works? also i think we need more lobbyists. 8-o

I don't think it would fly for me, because I work a helpdesk and have sometimes people sitting right next to me, in an enclosed room. Our old boss probably would have been okay with it since he was a smoker himself, but our new one isn't.

I probably will talk to my boss about it when I am fully switched over to using the PV, call it an "electronic nicotine inhaler", and ask if we are very short-staffed (sometimes I'm the only one in the room!) if I could use it at the desk. I work nights so we wouldn't have customers in the building, and if I'm alone up there at night I can see the boss realizing it would increase my productivity to not have to get up to go vape.

But I have coworkers with sensitive noses and allergies... They'll be thrilled that I won't smell like smoke when I enter the room, but they might not want to smell the vapor if I did it in the room. (I've been told some of the stronger flavors make the air smell like the flavor tastes, and if they're sensitive to it I wouldn't want to cause them a problem.)

Doesn't make sense. Don't they have to provide REASONS for wanting to implement such bans?

What could they possible have as a reason that using PVs in public places should be prohibited? Who does it harm? The fact that PVs don't emit any harmful second hand ingredients at all, just makes me wonder how these people can actually pass a bill like this with no justification whatsoever.

All in all, I'm not stressed, just majorly bummed. However, still a happy camper none the less. I still vape at my desk and in the bowling alley. No one complains. Those that do complain, complain to me and are only joking because they know what it is. Lots of people ask and I explain. Lots of interest, and several converts too!

WE WILL NOT BE SHUT DOWN!

VAPE ON!!!

@Moriah

If you're working nights and paranoid about any lingering smell (which is next to nothing by all accounts), try this:

-Buy a candy bowl and stock it with Werther's candies
-Vape a DIY blend of LorAnn's Butter Rum (squeeeeeeeee!)

So far, that's been doing a great job of covering my tracks when I'm stealth-vaping at my desk.

It didn't stop me from runny eggs and it sure as hell won't keep me vaping [and forking over $6/pk in state taxes]
I shall join you in the Jersey salute

well there is a video on youtube where connie wagner (D-Bergan) explanes the reasoning behind the new ban. its labled
Wagner, Conaway on Bill Package to Restrict Sale, Use of E-Cigarettes (A-4227/A-4228)

Apparently they weren't as proud of their crusade as they once were. The video has been removed. Is this an election year for them?

Yep. Every single member of the NJ Assembly and Senate is up for re-election this year and they are SCARED OUT OF THEIR WITS. The election of a Republican gov. last year, coupled with the loss of the Kennedy Senate seat earlier this month, has the DEMOCRAT political machines in this state running scared.

NJ politicians are the most corrupt in the country. They are in bed with BIG PHARMA (1,500+ pharmaceutical companies headquartered here!), not to mention the other special interest groups they have to answer to. Neither one can afford the loss of revenue that would result if NJ smokers suddenly quit smoking tobacco and switched to e-cigs. You will see a HUGE change in the law if and when Pfizer, J&J or GSK figured out a way to take control of this product.

The only way to stop the is GRIP - Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians. Elect people who will represent we the people and if they fall into bed with the speical interests, well, GRIP them too. Then and only then will NJ politicians put US first.

(Had to remove the links cause I'm too new ;))

Thanks for posting this.

The most disgusting thing is the fact that the legislature rushed this bill through BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IS IN THE VAPOR!? I found out fairly easily by going online. How stupid can they be?

Every time I hear a politician proclaim we're doing this for the children I want to throw up. NJ politicians don't give a hoot about kids. All they care about is padding their pensions and cozying up to Big Pharma.

As to why the Senate passed the Bill:
New Jersey Senate Democrats :: Gordon/Vitale Bill Banning Indoor Public Use Of 'E-Cigarettes' And Sale To Minors Signed Into Law

“With all of the overwhelming statistics on the hazards of smoking, the e-cigarette is nothing more than an attempt by the tobacco industry to reinvent itself as a healthier alternative,” said Sen. Vitale (D-Middlesex)

“This is yet another victory for public health,” said Sen. Gordon (D-Bergen). “No matter how manufacturers attempt to market these devices, they are still cigarettes. In many ways, they may be more dangerous than traditional cigarettes because of their lack of oversight or any conclusive studies into their health effects.”

The Doc seems to think their shmucks. I agree!
The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary: New Jersey State Senators Tell Public that Electronic Cigarettes are More Dangerous than Regular Ones; Call E-Cigarettes a Tobacco Industry Ploy

I sent the link to all assembly and senate members. For some reason I never heard back from them. Maybe send it to the new Gov. and papers next.

e-cigarette's are just starting to catch on here in Missouri Around the Springfield, Republic and outlining areas, I bought a 510 kit for my 22 year old for Christmas and then turned around and and ordered myself one a month later...I'm impressed,,,Ive been tying to talk my sister who has a number of smoke related health issues into making the switch I really hope they do not try to out law the sale of them, they are so much cheaper after the set up cost and no second hand smoke is a bib plus for parents with small children' or a spouse that don't like the stench

when i called the governors office the day after it was passed, asking for information about what can i do since i had no clue about it. She admittedly stated ignorance is no excuse! Can we use this as well? If they are misinformed how can they just pass a bill stating you cant do this?

Unfortunately, people pleading ignorance after-the-fact is the last thing NJ politicians have to worry about. They got it passed. Its passing was based on a lot of powerful anti-tobacco lobbyists trying to protect their purse. Unfortunately that's the way things work in politics.

Of course the law does not state that you can't use this device, just that you can't use it in indoor public spaces.

Some states' intrenched financial interests, under the guise of "protecting the children" etc, panicked faster than others. NJ is on the bleeding edge of this panic.

Why, you ask? Have you ever driven down the Route 202 corridor between Flemington and Somerville? I did lots of times. I used to live there. The highway for some 8 to 10 miles is utterly flanked on both sides with huge glass towers of Pharmaceutical might. The NJ politicians are protecting those interests from the advent of the e-cig, which allows smokers to quit smoking real cigs far more easily and enjoyably than any patch or gum product created by those industries. Pharma Lobbyists Panic = Politicians Panic = Law Quickly Written Under Public Radar. 8-o

What we can hope for, as users of e-cigs, is that laws (or interpretations of laws by other gov't agencies) created by states to ban e-cig usage on such a broad scale will eventually be nullified and written out of law if the final ruling in the federal court case (Judge Leon) goes in our favor.

In the meantime, you can still enjoy your e-cig in the privacy of your home or on public streets. You can still protect your personal health.
