I won't ever plug my iPhone into a car adapter NO NAME OR BRAND NAME if the adapter is not made for iPhones. Rather be safe (and smart) than sorry...

i use a no name usb car adapter for my iphone all the time am i lucky? no i think this guy just got a faulty adapter

Isn't everything that Apple\Macintosh ever created proprietary by sheer design? Nothing causes me to loathe a company more than the habit of creating devices\software\etc. that is strictly proprietary so once you fall for purchasing it you are stuck with their outrageous prices regarding repair\upgrade\service etc. etc. ad nauseum.
