Did anyone experience little to no smoker's cough when switching from smoking to vaping? I'm getting hardly any now and don't always feel the need to vape just for the nicotine. The biggest part of my addiction is the behavior. Actually one of my vaping friends read an article in a video chat that says nicotine all by itself isn't addictive, it turns out tobacco contains an MAOI that interacts with the nicotine, and that the nicotine itself is only responsible for the temporary "buzz" that you get when you haven't dosed yourself. The part that makes it the most addictive is the learned behavior. That's the gist of it anyway, I'm sure there's more to it that I forgot. Either way I was relieved to hear that, so making the commitment to quit should be a bit easier now.

I typically get smoker's cough from not smoking for a short while, then once I smoked a cigarette it was usually gone. I hope I don't have crazy coughing fits later, but I might based on your experience. I seem to mildly cough up some junk now and then, but no major fits so far.

Same experience here... I've read it's common. Basically, after a couple/few weeks, the body starts repairing itself, and that starts with the body expelling all the gross stuff...

For me the first week, I didn't know about staying hydrated, and I actually got laryngitis. About 3 weeks in, I got coughing fits like crazy for about a week or a week and a half, after that is when I REALLY started seeing a difference in respiration and other health aspects.

Bleh, that won't be fun, I hope I don't relapse. I guess the vapors from the e-cig won't relieve it at all, but on the other hand I don't think that's supposed to happen.

Just stick it out. It is completely worth it... Once the lungs are cleared out, you will really feel 200% better than you do even now.

Yeah I know, and I'll be saving money too. Patience just isn't my strong suit lol.

My personal suggestion... If you start to notice the cough, get some cough drops. They help quite a bit when it gets rough. I would personally advise against any strong cough suppressant though, considering that the reason you are coughing is to get all the gunk out of your lungs...

Yeah thanks, I'll definitely do that. I don't plan to get a cough suppressant anyway, I hate cough syrup lol. I was once told not to use cough drops though and to just tough it out completely, I guess that person was wrong. I hope it's not as bad as the last time I tried to quit, all of the coughing actually made me puke a few times.

I wouldn't use the cough drops all the time, but frankly I did have a few episodes where I was doubled over coughing. During those times, I don't think it's out of line to alleviate it with a simple cough drop...

When I was smoking I would cough at night...coughing would wake me up in the middle of the night. Prolly woke up loved ones too.
The only time I cough now is just a small little cough when I use strong pg juice. So I'm going with 100% vg on future orders.

Edit: never got the quit smoking cough. Does that mean the gunk is stuck in there forever? I wouldn't be surprised as I have smoked everything there is to smoke. :(

I've wondered that also. I figured whatever mechanism the lungs use to get rid of "stuff/junk", would not work as intended because I was a heavy smoker. I still expect that once things repair/regenerate to a certain extent I should have some cough to get rid of it? I also imagine its very dependent on the individual how long it takes, I.e. what kind o'shape are my lungs actually in? How long did I smoke, how much, and just plain how? And I don't even know how this is going to go for me personally, so I don't want to specualate too much about what your experience may be like.

I am about a month into my vaping/not smoking, to be totally honest I don't feel any different, not yet at any rate. I estimated the other day that since I began smoking I have smoked about 350,000 cigarettes. Still can't quite believe that number, (and I really don't want to know what I've spent on them;)). So maybe 350,000 less a 1000, isn't enough to make a huge difference for me personally yet, but that's ok. I have no intention of adding to that 350,000 and as that 1000 number continues to grow I feel really really good about that!

Best of luck to you as you continue, every cig not smoked is a success, if you save money doing it......BONUS:)

Russ how many years and how many packs a day had you been smoking before you switched to vaping?
I started smoking in my mid teens and pushing 60 soon. When I started smoking it quickly evolved to a pack a day then sometimes up to 2 PAD for the most part for years and years! Developed a "smokers cough" a couple years ago and it got really bad last winter during a battle with bronchitis. I coughed up a lung every day in the morning and frequent coughing spells throughout the day. Even during the night, while laying prone, it got worse..........so
Long story short, I started vaping at the end of February. Within 2 - 3 weeks my daily "coughing up a lung" scenario stopped!
I have occasional relapses where I do light up an analog once or twice a day, and chain vape the rest of the day LOL but don't cough anymore. I'm hoping my lungs are happily returning to a normal - (non-smoker?) state.
Your statement about the habit/ritual of lighting up a cigarette could be my problem when I find myself lighting up a ciggy. A 40+ yr habit might be harder to break than I thought

I still cough a little bit of gunk into the sink first thing in the morning, but it's not the huge greybown globs of gross crap like when i smoked. I figure it's because even the nicotine in vaping paralyses the throat muscles somewhat so that's just the previous day's worth of normal incidental coughing.

It's NOTHING like when I smoked. When I smoked I would cough in my sleep and wind up with clumps of crap stuck to my pillow and consequently to my face and in my hair.

I am SO glad and thankful that I found a means to leave all of that behind. I feel like a million bucks, though yes it was tough getting over the aforementioned MAOIs initially.
