Reading through posts here I have noticed a strong aversion to Analogs/nicotine in general. These post are mainly focused at the addictive quality of the substance. Am I the only one who has never felt the apparently firm cold grasp of nicotine addiction?

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy nicotine and the buzz that it provides but even when I was smoking cigs I never felt I HAD to have one. In fact I just recently stopped smoking them all together a couple of weeks ago due to cost and my girlfriends aversion to them. I'd really like to know if there are any other nicotine users who are not shackled to it...

I don't know about anyone else, I believe I was more addicted to all the other chemicals in cigarettes more than the nicotine.

Ive never felt a nicotine buzz so I don't understand / can't relate to anyone chasing / enjoying a nicotine buzz.

I think some folks falsely equate a lack of oxygen to the brain to a buzz.

everyone's dependancy on smoking is different ... a casual smoker will likely be able to go symptom free easier.

I have also heard of women who quit no problem, because they were thinking about starting a family ... they were able to quit months before they even became pregnant.

The mind works in powerful ways :2cool:

Some people carry the label "addicted" as a badge of courage to be worn with pride. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your post! I smoked for more than 40 years and was dependent on 1 1/2 pad of cigarettes to carry me through the pressures of life. However, the times that I quit (before vaping) I didn't have to be locked up in a padded cell, or did not go through physically destructive withdrawal symptoms. Yes, I was irritable, short of temper some times, but was still able to function at home and at work without outside intervention. I had an underlying resentment that I was unable to indulge in something I really enjoyed - smoking.

I've finally kicked the cigarette dependence with vaping and yes, even nicotine as I'm now vaping 3mg nic to 0mg nic eliquid.

I can definitely relate to the habitual aspect. That's one of the draws that made me decide to try vaping; the casual puff to keep busy or pass the time. My parents are one of the latter though. They were hooked on nicotine until recently (used the patch to stop because my niece was born). Its pretty crazy how different peoples bodies/minds can be even from their own family.

As for the nicotine buzz if anyone is wanting to understand that I would recommend finding a high quality hookah bar or an experienced hookah smoker to pack a bowl of Tangiers.

About a year ago I watched an education TV program. It was quite scientific in its approach with blood work, genetic testing, etc. Their findings indicated that the "addiction" to nicotine was genetic. They tested members of families (for environmental impact study) where some inherited the gene and others didn't for instance. Those who carried the gene were smokers; those who did not carry the gene had experimented with smoking but did not continue with it.

Myself, since vaping, I've found that its not nicotine that appealed to me in smoking but do believe I was addicted to other substances in the smokes.

Do you happen to remember what that program was or possibly the channel it came on? Sounds like a pretty interesting show.

its the whole process..the hand -mouth physical movement...the nicotine..the smell..the taste..the chemicals..the smoke...after awhile and years of that, U get use to it...and when U quit, your brain realizes that something is missing..its amore of a mental "addiction"..I hate that word...a habit than it is physical....the physical part leaves you in a few days or week...but months and years later U still can get cravings due to years of a bad habit and the whole process of smoking analogs....just like if everyday for years U went to Drunkin Donuts for a coffee and then suddenly one day you decide to quit going...I bet if U drove by their daily 3 years later U would want to stop in and have a coffee and see the old crowd..we are creatures of habits and routines which can be hard to change..

Well, first you have to separate out smoking and vaping. There's a hell of a lot more going on with smoking and what's produced from burning processed tobacco that makes it more addictive than simple nicotine in vaping. It's not just about the nicotine.

When it comes to smoking and addiction, I've only ever known one person who can take it or leave it. She has no more than 4 or 5 cigarettes a month - bummed from other people always - and that's it. Anyone else? Starts with 4 or 5 cigarettes and ends up a full time smoker. So there might be a grain of truth to a genetic argument but I'd be inclined to think my singular, non addicted friend is the genetic freak in this scenario and "everyone else" is the genetic rule.

I'm sorry I don't. The only clue I can give, since we watch so many educational channels, is that it is a regular show... every week I'm pretty sure... with the same male appearing (MCish) each week. In fact, he and his family were some they tested since all but two members of his family and himself included didn't take to smoking. I'll flip through the channels in the coming weeks and see if I catch one with him on. Oh, and I think its a British show. Just taking a wild guess I bet it was on PBS remembering that.

Edit: Yes, it is British. The whole show takes place in England.
