what do you say to someone who believes that you have not quit smoking until you do not use nicotine at all! this person is also an ex smoker and my boss.just wondering...

My wife says that too. I stopped trying to explain.

To some people if there isn't a major TV news piece about it, it can't be true.

After about 2 weeks I stopped worrying about it. Sometimes she will say ooo I like that one. The only thing that bugs her is when a cloud goes in her face.

Since it is your boss, I would just acknowledge him/her and move onto something else to talk about. The truth is you are not smoking, you are vaping. You have not given up nicotine but you have given up smoking. It really is no one's business to judge your habits but they will do it anyway. I wouldn't give it another thought.

It sounds like the boss is mixing up two different ideas in his mind. There is smoking, and there is using/"being addicted to" nicotine. To him, they are interchangeable and as long as you are doing either you are still a smoker. In reality they aren't. Unfortunately it's a common problem.

For example...my employer has a "tobacco free workplace" policy which treats cigarettes, SNUS, and cig-alikes as interchangeable...all are forbidden on company property...even though for e.g. SNUS has no second-hand smoke and is massively safer for the user. It makes no sense from an employee health, safety, productivity (employees must leave the property, not just go outside, to use either), insurance cost, or any other perspective. It only makes sense if you mistakenly categorize nicotine use and smoking as the same thing with the same risks. Unfortunately a lot of anti-smoking propaganda pushes that (wrong) view.

Personally I would probably say something like, "Is an alcoholic still drinking if she switches from rum & cola to straight cola?" I'd leave it at that unless there was a specific reason (e.g. cheaper insurance).

Oh, and to another poster: just about nobody like raw potatoes...humans can't digest raw potato starches very well so they are lousy food.
