Noob inventory tips needed

Hi all! I've been looking at custom battery mods for a few months, basically since I started vaping. I knew the very basic knowledge to get me started with modding was trapped in my head somewhere, I just couldn't get it out. Well something finally clicked, and although I'm still a hopeless noob who hasn't built one mod yet, I finally know at least where to START, which is the kick I needed.

So, I'm on a lockdown budget for a little while, which means I get plenty of time to plan what materials to buy when I finally free up some cash flow. So, 2 big questions:

What type of wire should I be looking for? I tried bumming around on radio shack's web site earlier tonight to price wire, and all I got out of it is the knowledge that I've always identified cords/cables/wires/whatever by the jacks they hook up to. The actual wire is completely new to me.

Also, I'd like to begin by just soldering junk wire and metal scraps until I feel somewhat comfortable. Any suggestions on where to go to get junk wire and metal scraps since I have none accessible?

Thanks a lot! :)

If your on a real tight budget you should go dumpster diving for parts. Just about every thing has a LED and a few little tactile switches. You dont need a mile of wire for a mod so its easy to find enough free. Large apartment complexes are my favourite places. Bring a multi tool too open cases/break boards.

Thanks! Great idea! I'm wondering if I might even be able to gut some of my daughter's forgotten toys for some of this stuff. (Note to self: check with Mommy before destroying anything or feel the righteous flames of retribution) Will pretty much any wires I find in various junk work ok? Or should I be looking for a minimum thickness to carry the <insert the correct electrical term here>?
