Noob question about oxidized nic's taste

Does oxidized nicotine taste like salty rust? I used the last of some poorly-stored 100mg base a couple days ago, and every batch (5-15mL batches, thank goodness) has a slight taste of rust and salt. The taste presents itself specifically in those batches, in several different drippers. I'd mix up the nic base to 12mg/ml by itself and know for sure, but it's gone (and I can't figure what else it may be)...

I apologize that I'm sure this question has been answered many times; I simply do not have the Google-Fu to find it.

Where did he nicotine in question come from? Some nic is purer and cleaner than others- like vodkas...

It's Nude Nicotine. When I got it several months ago, it was pretty well flavorless and crystal clear. It was almost the color of weak cola when I dug it out of the cabinet a couple days ago and had a smell, but the smell wasn't terrible, almost a tobacco-ish smell. It's been opened/closed many times, so it's had plenty of exposure to oxygen.

The most oxidized nic I ever tasted seemed like it tasted like licking fish slime while holding a copper penny in my mouth.

While I HAVE done both of these things, it was the first time it was combined on my tastebuds.

Copper.. yeah that sounds about like what I'm tasting. Not getting the fish slime, but it may not have gotten that far. And indeed, the next bottle (as yet unopened) is going into 15mL and 30mL vials, in a box, in the back of the freezer.
