Hi, I'm using a kanger subox mini and subtank.. just starting out trying to make my own coils and was wondering if i could use alien/tiger/hive wires for my coil builds? subox mini only goes up to 50 watts and i've heard that no point using the other fancy type wires unless i have a mod that goes up to at least 100w..

Only use real vaping wire, and only use Nickel and Titanium wire in Temperature Control.

Some wires have toxins that are dangerous to your health.

Hi and welcome. You have put your finger on it. Massive coil builds need a lot of watts or they suffer annoyingly long ramp times before they can make vapor. There's also the question of just how much coil you can fit in your RBA deck. If you really want wild builds, you need more power and a better topper. You can buy an RX200, plus 3 batteries, plus a Mutation V4 well under $100. But on your Subox, twisted 30s or 28s is about all you can manage.

Hi trippy_K82.

There are also Size Issues to consider.

The Subtank Mini isn't a huge Deck to Build On. So to get a Multi Wire Coil to fit, you will probably have to make a Small Inner Diameter Coil. Which Means less potential Wicking.

Not say'n it can't be Done. Just that in this case, Size of Coil can be a Limiting Factor.

Wire style has nothing to do with power. Resistance is what determines how much power you need. I can build claptons at 1 ohm or .1 ohm and anything in between. Lower resistance usually translates into a warmer vape at higher wattage. In my Bellus tank, I run dual 28g/38g Clapton coils at .55 ohms for the pair. At 45w this is a cool flavorful but voluminous vape. In my Griffin I have 24g/34g dual Claptons at .22 and it's a warm vape around 75w.

Then you get to dual fused claptons, which for me is the flavor threshold. I don't see much flavor difference between FC and more intense builds like Aliens or staggered fused claptons. The smaller wrap wire you use the more juice the wire will wick and faster the ramp up time. Thicker wires will lower resistance. Heavy wraps will slow ramp up time.

For your Subtank mini you could easily use Clapton wire for a flavorful single coil build. A 24g/36g Clapton wrapped about 6 times on 2.5mm bit would get you to .5ohms and would run nicely on the Kbox. You could also play with micro fused claptons like 2x28g/38g, these would make single coils around .5ohm as well.

Resistance is the key. But the Subtank mini is not great with thick wire due to the way you catch the wires in the screws. I'd recommend trying some simple micro coil builds and see if you enjoy rebuilding then invest in a dedicated RTA for the future, I'd reccommend a Griffin or Aromamizer for easy building.

Good suggestions and example builds, however on a regulated device resistance is of no consequence. Heat up time has nothing to do resistance but everything with the mass of the wire/build vs. power put into it.
If you make 2 builds of the same resistance, the one with less mass (ie the one that is lighter) will heat up quicker at the same power level.

On an unregulated device, the resistance determines the power level, so it needs to be adequate for what is required to heat the mass of the build within a time we deem reasonable.

Yes, provided you build within the mods ohm and amp limits. But, I would master simple stranded and twisted wire builds before moving on to manufactured wire builds. Yes those wires can be vaped at less than 50watts, they just do much better above that.

Well... there ya go.

If you are just starting out... K. I. S. S.

Please use a calculator : Coil wrapping

Be safe

Thanks for the link. Gonna practice coil building till I can get a better mod.

Wow. That is rather a lot of info to absorb but thanks for enlightening me. Intend to get a Griffin in time to come. So much to learn, thanks for the tips.

I am able to fit a 5 wrap Clapton (26/32) inside the subtank mini but that's about it as far as "bigger" coils go. If you are new to building I would start off with some 28g kanthal and master the rba deck with that.... After ya got that down try twisting some 28 or building parallel coils an go from there.

New question.. just got my coil master kit, how does the diameter of the coil affect the vape? I'm using 28/32 twisted clapton wires. (was a gift from my wife)

For me, Bigger Diameter Coils means More Wicking. And More Wicking means Less Chance of getting Dry Hits.

Bigger Coil Diameters are also More forgiving if the Cotton isn't Wicked Perfectly.

I like to use either 3mm or 3.5mm Diameters for Single Coils.

tried using the 3mm stick to coil.. its too big to fit my kanger subtank. lol
