So Cal
Hello. New to ecf, been reading quite a lot but finally registered. Been vaping for a few months on the ego-c and cart-o tank setup, zero urges to smoke analogs now. Wanted to dive into the world of mech mods so I bought the smok magneto, nimbus atty, aw18500 batteries, and a 4bay something charger. Reading up on coils, and the micro coils intrigued me. Dual micro setup at 1.5 - 1.7 ohms worth it on a mech? Also I see people are using mainly silica and ecowool, is cotton that much better? Thanks for reading. I look forward to fiddling and safely broadening my vaping experience.

The best set up for cotton is a reo/reomizer2 set up with a micro coil. I cant speak highly enough about this combo. Its about 200dollars but worth every penny. I gave away all my sticks and tubes (egos/clearos, mechs, vv/vw mods/large rba's) after a week with this combo.
Check out the microcoils to increase... thread here on ecf started by super_x_drifter.

I also switched from silica, mesh, and ecowool TO cotton (fresh out of a bag of cotton balls) and i have no regrets. Considering that i have at least 50 dollars worth of elite wicking materials in my vape drawer but have been using a 2 dollar bag of cotton for the last month- id advise to use that. Itll save you money and you wont be getting silica fibers stuck in your fingers or elsewhere.

Hello everyone I'm a noob too! I quit smoking over 6 weeks ago and I can't describe how impressed I am with vaping. After over 40 years of smoking my wife and I both quit. And I don't even feel like smoking analogs anymore!

Congrats on being smoke free!!! Congrats to both you and the creator of this thread. If you have ANY questions post away. If your not getting answers just pm me and ill reply as well with my honest and humble opinion and experience.
Whatever device you use, its all good as long as it keeps you off the stinkies. Welcome. Ecf is a good place.
A little advise. Always review your future purchases here extensively before you buy. Youd be surprised at how marked up some retailers charge for things. Hell. The ego set i quit smoking with back in the day cost me 70 bucks. After a few months of research and graduating off egos and other devises. I can find egos for 15bucks.

Thedan, thanks for your input. So with the cotton, is it just any type of cotton available at walgreens or wal mart? I will definitely be reading up on that setup. As for my vape budget, it is non existent as of this moment because I just moved and had no idea it would cost so much getting odds and ends, plus furniture and a new tv. My entire savings went to the little things. Didn't know silica was such a pain to work with. If I have any other questions, I will probably pester you a bit with pms. Thanks again.

Night Owl, congrats on kicking the habit! Welcome to the forums as well. Hope you find everything you are looking for. Vape on my friend!

Texas, I am guessing that you rock that setup as well?

Yes sir. Just plain old cotton balls you can find in the health/beauty section. Youll save tons on wicks if you can succeed with cotton and you wont have to deal with silica strands unraveling and getting on your hands and everything you touch.
Save and spend your vape dollars wisely as your taste evolves and changes as you get into things. And through experience, ive had good experiences with ordering from fasttech.com back in my tube/stick days. They've got tons of great clones of expensive rba's there for cheap. 5-10 dollars cheap. That site is also the best source to get top of the line panasonic batteries. The massive discount of cutting middlemen saves you alot if you can deal with (free) shipping that takes a while longer bc its mailed from china.

Im still plugging the reo\rm2 100%. Its ALL i use and ever plan in using. Start saving. :)
Congrats on your new place and not stinking it up with ciggys.

In my opinion and alot others--yes. Panasonic are better than aw imrs. The "cgr18650ch" 2250mah is one of the best batteries for HI amp capabilities AND battery life. The "ncr18650pd" battery imo is equally as good as it can take a 10 AMP discharge and has 2900mah. These are both safe chemistry batts. But they are both UNPROTECTED. They can be shorted, killed by draining them below 2.8volts, and if you put them in a bad -or the wrong charger- can be killed or catastrophically fail.
However. These are THE name for hi drain batteries and if you use them wisely are considered safe. Check the flashlight enthusiast forums for detailed charts and comparison information that is an info overload, but very helpful.
My fellow reo users mostly use aw-imr 1600mah batteries and swear by them bc the reosmods were built around that battery. But comparing the 2 (i got aw's and pana's), i choose panasonic.
Im blabbing a wall of text sorry.
Ps. Id stick to only to the models i mentioned for panasonics. Others may have a higher MAH number, but wont perform under load and hi amp drains nearly as well.
If you are persuaded to get the aw's, get the 1600mah ones because they perform better and have a lower internal resistance i believe.

When purchasing a rebuildable consider getting a cheap multimeter from them as well. Youtube will show you how to use them and how to use them on your rebuildables.
To check your batteries level of charge the multimeter way set it to dc volts. V with a straight line over it. 4.2 is fully charged for a standard lithium ion ecig battery. 3.7 is where they keep their voltage at after discharging for the longest, and i would say you need to recharge for sure at 3.2 volts. Put one lead to the top of the battery and the other to the bottom. Power/ground.
Im an aircraft electrician for the af and i get way to blabby about electricity and ecigs.

Man. Awseome information Thedan. I will have to check the panasonics out. I already bought aw imr 1600 mah batteries for now haaha. Posted a bit too late. I already have a multimeter from fluke, I was a generator mech for the Marine Corps for a short (no pun intended) period of time. Thanks again for all the info Thedan! Thanks for your service brotha.

No worries. The aw1600's are great batts. They are pricy in comparison to the fasttech->wait 2-4 weeks-> 2 panasonic for price of one sold in the states route, but still a battery that wont let you down. Not wasted money imo.
And damn bro. A fluke? I love them. Cant afford one, but sign out a fluke 87v every day. Quickest self ranging meter out there. I wish i had the 250-400 bucks to buy one for my personal use but i spent it all on my mods. Using a 20buck china made self ranging meter and its slow and sensitive.
Best wishes. Any more q's id be delighted to answer if i can so dont be shy. Ecigs and ecf are a hobby AND a habit at this point. Im on here more than facebook

Thanks for your encouragement. And yes, I know what you mean about pricing. Most of the B&M's around here are very high cost. I know companies have to make a profit but from what I've seen this industry could use a little more honesty and pricing competition. I currently own a wholesale business here in south Florida and I've been thinking about adding a retail setup to sell vape and supplies. My wife is already making her own vape anyway. She loves flavorings and experimenting with them.

sorry so late to reply.. i got the 'peaches and cream' cotton yarn from wal mart, boiled before use. i may have to take back my previous statement about not liking it so much... first i used it in my little RBA- it works, its not so bad, i would say i taste a little cotton tho. second try went in my protank, sorta same results. finally got around to using it in an EVOD, and il have to say that this time i dont taste cotton. wicking behavior is pretty excellent in all 3, and it being in yarn form makes rebuilds pretty easy. the only real drawback so far is that you cant dry burn with cotton.

Thedan, I am for sure going to be collecting some of these so I will definitely be getting more batteries in the future. Panasonic batteries will be ordered for sure :D Yea, I got hooked up with one from my unit when I left them to go on a deployment. I was completely shocked, all my staff NCO's and Marines got some money together to get me one. I love the thing. I am never going to use anything else as long as I have this bad boy.

Onion, Dry burn is to make sure that your coils are lighting up correctly, right? Could you just light them up before you put some cotton in there?
With the cotton taste, would using a bit less be better maybe?
