noob to Rebuildable Atomizers, I'm lost.

I'm pretty comfortable with my knowledge of current and how it works but this thing has me stumped. I have a Genesis clone DID (you'll let me know if this is wrong right) when I fired it up out of the box I got hotspots galore. It was like smoking a dry cartomizer. So I did some research and got a small spool of 28 Kanthal. I re-wrapped my wick for practice and now I get the message "Low Load" which I assume means there is a short. I've made sure the wire is going from screw around wick to nut and that the wick isn't touching anything else but I'm not sure where else it could be grounding. The only guess I might have is that it looks like I kinked the wick and maybe I broke up some of the carbon so the wick is now grounding out? I've included pics and my ZMax is firing fine with everything else.

P.S. I know the wrap is ugly but it's my first and only meant to be practice.

Low load means you DID is under 1.3ohms. With 28ga wire you will need 7plus wraps or more to fire on the zmax and to be honest i wasnt impressed with the vape on a 8/9 28ga wrap on my zmax. I would stick with 32 ga wire on a vv/vw device.

Grab a mech mod and go with a 3/4 wrap of 28ga and be in vape nirvana

yea what he said, try to keep the wraps down to 5 or less for best response and action. once you get into a lot of wraps you have to hold the button forever it seems to get full heat..

man that is one sappy looking coil, sorry i shouldnt make fun, for mine looked like that to on my first attempt. anyways although i do not own a did clone, i have heard that they might have wicking issues, so if your not getting good wicking try taking out fill screw. good luck

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For a Noob like i am to RBA's I thought it looked pretty good. Just hope the second attempt works better than the first.

I would have to say rescanning everything look up some peterk and/or drillbit method for coils and you will get some seriously nice coils with some practice. this will help a lot with shorting and hotspots.

and yea sometimes having the fill screw out will help the wicking.

That coil has gaps, which is a recipe for disaster with SS mesh.

Re-roll with either the Petar K. drill bit method or use the "Zen coil basics" method of spinning the mod while wrapping for proper tension.

Heck don't feel bad. I bought some kanthal yesterday then dropped it on the floor. It's still there somewhere in the carpet monster. Along with a lot of screws and other things. Lol
