Trying to quit smoking and thinking the way for me to do this would be through an ecig. Any suggestions as I am totally lost in what to purchase. High or low strength cartos, automatic or manual battery, disposable unit or just jump in and get a starter kit? I have smoked menthol cigarettes for 30 years, help me please!

Depends on what you want. You can go with the cigalikes, ego batteries, mechanical or variable voltage mods. I get most of my stuff from fasttech because of the prices. If you go that route, read the discussions and reviews on the item you want to purchase. I went from cigalikes to Egos to the Vamo in a couple of months. Now waiting on my K100.

I did the same route as shamus, but it took me 2.4 years to get to the Vamo, but I have been quit for 2.4yrs,so it does work. I did 2.5PAD and was a smoker for 35 years. For me,the cig-a-like was a waste of money,as I was a heavy smoker and having to recharge the Batt, every 45 min did not cut it. with the Ego,it was twice a day and now with the vamo once, sometimes twice a day. Good luck to you:vapor:

been there done that...
thought the little "look kinda like a cigarette" were cool but the small batteries ended up making me almost give it up

then I found EVOD Kit and have been very happy since buying one
this is an example of the cheapest I see at this time...
Kanger E-VOD Starter kit, Kanger EVOD clearomizer, Kanger eVod Cartomizer

good luck and hang tuff !
let us know how your doing... :)

I'd just pick up a Joytech eGo C Twist, and some kanger T3s or protanks.Get a couple eGo's just because its always nice having a backup.

The next step if wanting to one up the eGo is a Vamo. Bigger mod but much nicer than the already great Ego twist. And while you're at it you can look into the iClear tanks. (my favorite tank to date)

It can be. I have been quit for 2.4 yrs and I consider myself a noob, even though I am doing my DIY juice. There is a guy on here called Badattitue,he is very knowledgeable. You have to get your feet wet. Iwent from 250.00 a month on Cigs,to 48-56. on vaping. If you are a heavy,or long term smoker you may want to skip the cig a like. If you have a BM store check them out.

As someone who is fairly new myself, I would recommend starting with a basic but decent system, something that's really user-friendly and not too complex while you start getting to know how vaping works and getting to know the vaping world. For me, a starter Evod kit did the trick, or pairing something like an Ego Spinner with Evods or other basic clearomizers is also a very easy way to get into vaping.

I've already started moving to upgrading, and ordered my first advanced personal vaporizer this week, but there's no way I could have done that to start -- vaping can get really techy, which is half the fun for a lot of people but can be confusing and sort of dismaying if you don't fall into that category.

My trajectory so far was that I basically spent the first month researching constantly here on ECF and watching a lot of YouTube videos, as well as researching juice vendors and trying a LOT of different juices (with more on the way). Now that I've got a good stash of high-quality e-juice, that's when I started to feel like I could be getting more from the experience by upgrading my hardware.

Basically, I'd say don't stress yourself out too much to start. Invest in a decent, user-friendly set-up, like an Evod or Ego starter kit, then order some great juices to try while you hang out at ECF and get to learn more about vaping.

By the way -- my starter Evod kit came on Saturday, July 6. I had three smokes left, and was a 30-cigarette-a-day smoker for 15 years. I chainsmoked my last three, started vaping, and haven't bought cigarettes since. Bummed a few here and there, but in the last couple of weeks I haven't even wanted a cigarette. Some people get off analogs at a different pace, but definitely vaping can change your life. Good luck!

I've been off smokes for ten weeks now. This Joyetech eroll and additional battery plus clearomizer for home-work satisfies my cravings for now. The ash tray has not been used, but am still afraid to throw it away. The atomizer needs occasional cleaning. This one is opened to show you what you are cleaning.
After 38 years of smoking, so far this set up seems to keep me from going back. Good Luck!

Try this. Vape Dojo. They have an amazing deal for Kanger EVOD with 2 Protank minis for only $49.95. If you get some juice (I got the Black Menthol) you get free shipping. I ordered mine on Wednesday and received it on Friday. It love it. I got one for my daughter too. I've been vamping a while but she is new. This is her first.

Welcome to ECF and wishing you success on your vaping journey.

If you are budget-minded I would suggest getting the new Innokin iTaste VV 3.0. It will produce a high quality vape that you can adjust to your personal preference but is very easy for for a beginner to use. You just press the "+" button for a warmer vape and the "-" button for a cooler one. The budget-minded part is that the iTaste VV 3.0 has "legs" in that it has advanced features should you decide to use them down the road but you can simply ignore them when starting out. Even if you eventually move on to very advanced gear a small, VW device will likely find a happy place in your vaping arsenal rather than winding up in the junk drawer like many beginning devices with much fewer features do.

You have to wait a week or two for them to arrive from Hong Kong but Fast Tech sells the iTaste VV 3.0's for half price. You do not want the older model iTaste VV which lacks many of the better feature of the new 3.0 version. These are the correct models.
iTaste VW V3.0 7-in-1 Variable Voltage Rechargeable 800mAh Electronic Cigarettes Set - black
iTaste VW V3.0 7-in-1 Variable Voltage Rechargeable 800mAh Electronic Cigarettes Set - white

This review from one of the more popular e-cig reviewers, Grimmgreen will give you an idea of how the iTaste VV 3.0 works.

You also might want to send away for the free NJOY King. It comes in kick-.... nic strengths that might help with cravings and it very closely mimics the experience of smoking cigarettes. Contrary to NJOY's claims they are really only the equivalent to 8 to 10 cigarettes and are way too expensive to use long term. However, they can be quite useful in staving off cigarette cravings and providing the psychological comfort of using something so similar to a cigarette.

Using the NJOY King and the iTaste VV 3.0 will give you an excellent idea of where you need to spend your money for additional gear. If you find yourself depending on the NJOY King a lot you might want to get a cig-alike with rechargeable batteries and use it with high nicotine juice to help with the psychological transition to vaping. If you turn out to be in the minority of people who want to vape past the power limits of the the iTaste VV 3.0 you will want to look into getting one of the inexpensive 15 watt variable wattage (VW) mods.

Mount Baker Vapor is an ECF fave for nicotine e-liquid (juice) for the budget-minded. Try 18 mg. and 24 mg. at 70%PG/30% VG to start out. Hold off on any juices that they say crack plastic tanks for now. Keep an eye out for good deals on the new glass mini Kanger Pro Tank v2 for those types of juices. The v2 has just been released and the prices are pretty high right now. Vapor Joes will probably have any good deals that might come up on them but act quickly if you see one as they will probably sell out quickly.

I too was feeling overwhelmed and didn't really know what to pick. I bought a disposable Fin at Walmart, and then a Blu Cig at the gas station, but both were not that great. I did a TON of research and found Halo's G6 starter kit to be very straightforward. It's $44.99 and comes with 2 batteries, 5 cartomizers, and a charger. If you are a heavy smoker, I'd start with a higher nicotine level to curb your cravings. The cig-a-like style is good for people who have been entrenched in smoking for a long time and are used to holding something with the look and feel of a real cigarette. Halo's G6 is a high performing cig-a-like and I think you'll be surprised by its vapor production. If you do get this starter kit, or one like it, be sure to get some e-liquid or extra pre-filled cartomizers as you will be going through them fairly fast at first. Also, I liked the automatic battery to start because it feels the most "real" to me. Halo has some pretty great menthol flavors to choose from as well if you're used to smoking menthols. Good luck and let us know what you pick!

I really don't like recommendations any more. In total honesty, some people "link" to kits I think are terrible.

The only advise I now give on the UK forums is

1. Don't buy plastic white sticks unless you are/were a very, very light smoker. (so that's out)
2. Don't buy anything with "tank system" in the name (Joyetech/Totally Wicked, type A, type B) etc. Some people use these and swear by them, but in all honesty, noboby who sells Joyetech products uses this system any more. It is known to work out expensive long-term, the cartridges are leaky (basically a "cartridge" is old technology) and...well...they're far from the reliability of a clearomizer.

There has been a Spinner/Twist kit recommended on this forum a great deal. I would say that is a good place to start.

As for nicotine strength, if you smoked over a pack, start of 18mg or 24mg. I'd go "high" 24 to get going.

Whoever recommended a disposable might have a good point as well. It might be worth a try on one just to see what you think.

- - - -

I started with E-Lites. They were absolutely no use at all and a total waste of money. (cut down smoking by 10% a best)
I then got an 808 mini look-a-like e-cig kit....quite a bit better, but still lacking somewhat. (cut down by 80%)

Then I finally got an eGo-K kit (I think it's called that in the US). 2 batteries, a charger, some cartomisers and 1 clearomiser. 2 weeks later I'd quit smoking forever.

Thank you for the advice!! My next thing is the strength of the nicotine, should I order the strongest or weakest concentration?

Most people will find that a nicotine strength of 18 mg. or 24 mg. is a good starting point. However, there are stronger and weaker strengths available should you need them. If you are on a super tight budget you might want to try the Liqua or Dekang brands from Fast Tech. Those are decent quality liquids but they aren't made to order like Mount Baker.
