Normal?

I have been vaping for about 1 week now, and I just have 2 analogs a day (morning and night). I was a pack and a half smoker of Marlboro reds. Anyway, I am vaping between 3-4 ml of 24 mg/ml nicotine juice everyday, and I still feel like I need a nicotine "fix" most of the day. Is this normal, am I vaping to much or too little? Any help will be appreciated.

Totally normal. There are chemical additives to cigarettes that you are also addicted to. And as smokers, we are also addicted, or perhaps just used to, scorching our lungs. You are simply craving chemicals that are not nicotine, and the sensation of, well, suffocation, really.

If you can stick with it, even with a couple analogs a day, you will find you want the analogs less, and will soon be satiated with vaping alone. It's a bit different for everyone, but I think most of us went through this to some degree at first.

1 week and only 2 deathsticks a day, from a pack and a half Marlboro Red habit, that's actually fantastic.

It's been three weeks for me this time, and while I do not smoke at all away from work, I do usually bum one at work. I don't always smoke the entire thing, and they taste awful, but I didn't make the switch to vaping because I hated smoking, so much. I just hated the fact I knew they were killing me. I find the act, and social nature of smoking very relaxing. Trying to find that same feeling vaping is difficult, but I'm getting there. The hardest part is NOT feeling like some sort of cyborg when everybody is smoking and you whip out your pv. Half of that is simply I don't really care to talk about the damn things, I do enough of that online. :)

Good luck, again, you're doing a great job IMO.

Well, I'd say that general consensus on this forum is that there is no such thing as too much or too little. People are different. Just listen to your body and it will suggest what's best for u. But so far your vaping numbers look nornmal to me. I also used to smoke 1-1.5 packs of Marlboros per day for 20 years and now I vape 3-4ml of 18mg per day.

And if u want to smoke a cigarette, or two, or even five - why not? Look at it this way: even if u can reduce your smoking by half - that's already a great achievement!

I'd say you are well within the range of normal and could probably go 2-3 ml more or less and still be well within that range. The experience can vary significantly from one person to another. As for you still having a nic-craving, that could be for one or a variety of reasons. It is possible you would find a juice with a higher concentration of nicotine (36mg, for example) more satisfying, but it is also possible that simply modifying your vaping technique a little bit might do the trick.

I mention the latter because we must understand that we don't really absorb nicotine from vaper so much the same way as we do from cigarettes. With vaping, the nic is bonded more strongly to the suspension medium (PG and VG) than it is in cigarette smoke and as such, we don't actually get all that much nic delivered to our bloodstream via our lungs the way we would with a cigarette although the actual vaping experience is otherwise very similar to cigarette smoking.

The way we mostly get nicotine from vaping is actually more closely related to the way we would get it when smoking a pipe. Pipe smokers normally inhale some smoke, but very litte compared to cigarette smokers. Pipe smoking is all about the mouth, the nose and flavor. The nicotine in pipe tobacco smoke is very well absorbed into the bloodstream via saliva and the fine tissues of the mouthy (like with Snus) and with the fine, moist tissues of the nasal cavity (like with nasal snuff).

This doesn't mean one can't get the same satisfaction from vaping one can from a cigarette. It just means we get much of our nic a little differently than the way we do from cigs and that our nic-blood levels rise a bit more slowly than they would with cigarettes. However, I would mention that I think a person could probably achieve significantly higher nicotine levels in the blood with vaping than with cigarettes simply because the vast majority of people could vape much more than they could smoke. The result would be similar to the very high levels of nicotine in the blood that many users of nasal snuff (I love the stuff) and Snus users achieve (I love that stuff too).

Another factor we have to deal when moving from cigs to vaping that IMO is just as significant as nicotine blood levels is what do we do about all of the smoking-associated conventions and rituals we largely lose when we move to vaping? The number of things we do that we've somehow come to associate with cigarette smoking is mind-boggling. So, we get a big mod with a big tank and fill it with some juice we love. Then what? There's no buying/making cigarettes, there's no lighting or putting out, there's not the same marking of time before, during and after life events and for crying out loud, what do we do with all this extra time we have...AND THESE HANDS? ;)

It might also be possible that you are a person who is craving, not just nicotine, but additional tobacco alkaloids that simply aren't present in the vast majority of e-juices. Their absence doesn't seem to bother most people, but it appears that it does bother some. If it turns out to be the case that this is what is bothering you, then you can either pick up a can of Snus or European nasal snuff (none of the American versions of either, but the Euro versions are hands-down the safest tobacco products on the planet) or find some info around these forums on tobacco alkaloids that can be added to e-juice.

Most of all I'd say, give yourself some time to figure out what it is that YOU need to do in order to adjust to vaping and get the most out of it...which is distinct of course from what the rest of us may need to do. I hope find some of this long-winded post helpful, herky.

Very Very well said dayworks!!! Do you mind if I just link to this post every time one of my smoker friends has a question?:party:

I was PAD Camel Turkish Gold and I guess I was a lucky one, never went to a cigarette once I started vaping but it did take about 3-4 days to get the draw technique down but once I did it was like "....oh...THERE it is...." and went ahead and threw my cigarettes away. that was 2.5 years ago.

Most smokers, imo, don't realize that they are addicted to the other chemicals in certain cigarettes, ever notice how most smokers end up with "thier brand"?

So, like all the above said, keep sticking with it and adjusting and you'll be good-to-go

completely agree with this. Adjusting to vaping takes time. U simply cannot miraculously get rid of all smoking junk accumulated in your body in one week (and even in one month).

My experience with vaping was fantastic. I was a pack a day smoker for 20 years and I started vaping 8 days ago. I have had exactly ZERO analogs since I opened my vaping equipment. I gave away the pack I had in my pocket to a buddy at work on the first day.

The urges I have are more related to the habit itself rather than the nic. I am getting plenty of that from vaping 18mg juice. I find myself wanting to go outside randomly, as that was where I smoked at home and at work. It seems my body is fine with vaping but my mind still wants to carry on the ritual.

I say if you get the urge to smoke analogs then go ahead. You have cut back greatly and that is an accomplishment. I think if you stick with it you will find the urge will eventually disappear. Getting to where you are now is something to proud of.

if you really are needing a nic fix a drip atomizer might help. i dont know why, but when i get that feeling i'll switch my dct/clearo out for a drip atty and the same juice at the same voltage will give me a bit of buzz. good job on switching though. i still smoke 1 or 2 stinkies a day also, mostly cause the wife and kids dont follow me out side when i do so that is my personal time when theres nothing to read in the bathroom.

Instead of worrying, you should be so proud of yourself for only having 2 cigs a day. I think that is a huge accomplishment.
When I started vaping 3 weeks ago, I completely quit cigarettes. But the funny thing is I wasn't planning on quitting.
I vape about 3mL a day of 18mg and I was a PAD Newport smoker. It is a transition but you get used to it. Just like you got used to smoking the stinkies.

. . . I am going to research proper vaping technique. . .

Once you have your equipment sorted, just make sure you are taking long, slow, easy draws instead of quick puffs.

As others have said, don't worry about vaping too much. The important thing is to get past the worst of the cigarette addiction. Once you do that, you can worry about cutting back on how much you vape.

And don't worry about 2 cigs a day. One day (could be a week, a month or a year), you will decide they taste nasty and you would just rather vape than smoke.

You are doing Fantastic!

The 28 cigarettes a day, every day, that you are Not smoking are the ones that matter most! They are Gone! Every Day! Keep adding them up. What a difference.

You will know when the time is right. Keep Vaping the hell out of those cravings. Before you have your smoke, Vape, as much as you can to take the thrill out of the smokes.

In the meantime, Relax, Enjoy!

I agree with all the coments:you're doing great.
Don't worry about chain vaping, it's normal in the beginning and perhaps you will go on chainvaping for a long time reducing the nic in your juice ( only if you want to).
You will also enter a stage where you feel sick, just like a flu with a lot of coughing... don't worry either it's normal it's just your body getting rid of lots of accumulated stuff and healing itself.
Great start, hang in there it's absolutly worth it:vapor:
