My daughter is off on an adventure and leaving for New Zealand on Wednesday. She''ll be gone almost 3 weeks and going alone. Yes I'll worry, but I know she will have a fantastic journey. I'm sure I'll be vaping extra to keep from over-over-worry.
She will be backpacking most of it and will keep in touch...wish I could go with her. But this is her time. She saved up for it and good for her. I'm going to miss her alot. Her dog, Shadow, is going on a trip also...so she won't get depressed missing her, and dog parks and a past neighborhood she knows so well. My daughter friend wants the dog company for a while. Meantime will have to keep Crystal occupied so she won't miss Shadow.

Hanging out in CA for now
Awe div, no matter how old our "babies" get we always worry when they take a trip. My son is almost 28 and I still worry when he drives 2 hours south to Fort Worth.

I alway tell my son that no matter how old he gets he'll always be my baby and that carting him for 9 months, 12 hours of labor, 18 years of scraped knees, broken bones and other boo boo's gave me the right to worry about him as much as my little heart desires LOL He just grins and bears it!

Hi Div!

I went through this same thing 18 months ago. My 2 daughters left for Italy and Greece with backpacks and money and little plans to where they were going.

They had an awesome time and as I think back, I am happy I let them go because it was an experience that will last a lifetime! I was very nervous while they were there but we got them an international phone to keep in touch.

They had such a good time, they want us to go back to the area for a vacation one day!

By the way, the older daughter was 23 at the time, the younger one was 17.

Some people gave us grief because they felt she was too young, but she had mentioned doing this before college, and that was only a year away and we wouldn't know who she would be traveling with. By letting her go then, we knew who she would be with and knew she was in responsible hands!

Turned out so well!

She started a blog, and has 4 entries in it. last one updated the first day she arrived no wait that was Friday. I forget they are a day ahead. I know she can't update everyday, but after 3 more days I will wonder. She's headed, or already there, to wellington and then ferry to south island. She has contacts there and we have an emergency phone# thru google so verizon won't charge a house payment to use it.
Hoping she writes something soon...because that girl can write and I love reading it.

She updated again, and her plans changed. She is staying for a while on North Island..Hamilton, headed to Rotorua and then Taupo and then Wellington. South Island after that...for now, that may change too, lol. but at least I have a heads up where about she is. And she is thoroughly enjoying herself, as she should.

ut oh, weather changed pretty bad, so the news tells me, lots of flooding and hurricane winds......but she must know I needed an update cuz she did, lol. The weather has not deterred her from reaching where she wants to go, although no ferry across for the day, she will try tomorrow or next. She is safe, warm, making friends and made it to Wellington without swimming. She's headed to south Island and ready to explore some more, when weather permits.
don't mind me babbling...miss my kid.

I'm sure you like getting the updates! I can imagine how worried you could be if you had no contact at all!

Glad to hear it sounds like she is having a great time

I'm sure I would be bald pulling my hair out and all if there was no contact...you just can't do that to a parent....I couldn't even imagine.
Yep, she is having a great time, like she should.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Your daughter has a special talent while writing.
Her words made me feel like I was experiencing these amazing times with her and I don’t even know her!
I read each entry with anticipation for the next! I felt so drawn in!
I am envious of the experience she is having since I never did anything like that myself.
It truly sounds like she is having the time of her life, yet she is still very cautious! I’m sure you like that part! Some of the health issues are a little concerning and I am sure those parts bother you the most. They sound minor, but those pesky infections sure are troublesome! Hopefully everything clears up soon or at least doesn’t slow her down for the remainder of the trip.
I have bookmarked this blog since I am anxious to hear the rest

Again, thanks for sharing!

LOL Padre....She sent me a message last night that she is in Christchurch and the internet is expensive there at the hostel, so she hasn't updated her blog. I'm sure she will update once she gets to Auckland which I think is today, not sure since she is a day ahead, I get mixed up. But she is home again on Saturday. :)

sounds right....harry potter was our lives for quite a while here, lol. good catch Padre!
She's in the air now headed to Fiji where she said there is storms (ugh) and her layover is 9 hours..it was supposed to be sunny so it would have been worth the long layover. And then home tomorrow, yeah!!!! Don't know when she will get around to pictures posted, but I hope it won't be too long.
