I'm right there with you! I started vaping Jan. 2. Went from 3 packs a day to 10 a day in 24 hours. Haven't been able to get over the hump and still smoke 5-7 a day. I beat myself also but also realize I went from 60 analogs a day to 10 in 24 hours! I've been doing this for over 43 years. I have come to realize that I need to wean myself and it will happen when I'm ready. I'm still ahead of the game and breathing so much better. My sense of smell has improved also. I think when I 'need' the analogs is when I'm stressed because the nicotine hits your system much faster (with the other 3800+ chemicals and carcinogens) than with an ecig.

You'll do it when it's right for you. Look at it this way, you're doing much better than before vaping! Hang in there. It will happen :).

You're not alone here. I'm still stuck to a couple of "smokes" in the morning to get going, then need one here and there throughout the day. I've been using 18mg.

I've just ordered some 24mg to see if I can get by with that in the mornings and when I feel the itch later in the day. I really want to stop seeing my "break even" date quit moving further out.

Welcome to ECF and the club of people that have a hard time.
I do want to say the first thing you did WRONG is to expect to quit within a certain amount of time.
NO ONE ON THIS FORUM CAN TELL YOU WHEN YOUR PERSONAL QUIT DATE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dont worry about it. Be comfortable with what your doing.
If you cut down the numbers of analogs you started from then give I'll give you a pat on the back. Congrqats on that first step.
Don't set a date to stop.
Let the vaping life evolve around you. You've started a new journey in you life. Keep up the good work.
AND NEVER EVER COUNT THE ONES YOU SMOKE. ONLY COUNT THE ONES YOU DIDN'T SMOKE.
Keep it up OP and you'll finally succede with what your after. I got faith in you.

hi all, i recently started up vaping cuz i've been trying to ween my girlfriend off analogs. shes not allowed to smoke in the house thus i offered her some vapes i've bought to test out ... Its definitely not been a day 1 thing for her and shes gone from right out disliking it- to slowly but surely vaping only at night (foregoing her nightly cigarettes). shes even mentioned the styling being nice now and being able vape in the house has been a huge motivator for her  ... slow and steady. slow and steady.

I've been at it for 3 months, and still have to have a few analogs a day. Weekends are even tougher for me. Probably around 7 a day on saturdays and sundays. I have been able to get to a point where I don't smoke away from home. Work, going out etc. is vape only for me. Hang in there, you are already doing better by smoking less analogs than you were before. That in and of itself is a great step forward. And like others have said, don't count the ones you smoke, count the ones you haven't. You're doing great. :toast:

Ok I may be in the minority and I have only been vaping a couple months but have you considered not trying?

Let me explain….The first day I vaped I forgot to smoke until bed and then realizing what I did I went had a smoke……I wasn’t trying to quit you see I had only picked the thing up because I wanted something for when I couldn’t smoke. It took me a week to finish my pack off smokes since I would tell myself to vape until I was done doing what I was doing and then go ahead and go outside and have that smoke and 99.9 percent of the time I would simply forget by then. I still smoked them when I wanted to though and frequently had social smokes (with bf or coworkers).Once I started noticing my body starting to try to heal about a month in I said hey I should just drop all them social/habit smokes …..Give my body some extra help and that is when the craving started. I was when I told myself to stop I was smoking about 3 a week but the very minute I told myself I was quitting I had craving every single freaking day and it drove me crazy and then I got a horrid case of quitters flu and that detox was well way more than I bargained for and one night shortly after I went to living room grabbed my bf’s pack and smoked one and it helped ( it also tasted awful but so be it) so I told myself that I was done with all that self-inflicted trauma and if I want a smoke my grown self can have one and ……..it’s been over week since then and I haven’t had one yet…..I have no desire for one and in writing this right now I have realized that even actively considering one on my break here in about 30 minutes is a no go….I simply don’t want it but if and when I do I will have one and consider the couple hundred( or more by than) I have passed up along the way more than adequate .
We don’t have to be so hard on ourselves, we don’t have to stop every single smoke for the rest of our lives and we are not failures if we don’t. Go easy on yourself, the chemicals in smokes, the habit of smoking, the years of them whispering sweet nothings in your ears and yes the years of telling yourself that you can smoke if you want while getting the evil eye from those around you are all factors that are still in play and will be in play for a long time to come…how long? Who knows …we are all different ……and being different…well that’s a good thing not a bad thing.

PS. And you are doing good…don’t tell yourself otherwise….. You are here aren’t you?

Tucson, it's a dry heat
Here's a thought (in case you didn't already try it) - get a lanyard for your PV. I wear my PV faithfully around my neck from the moment I get home (I never smoked at work - teachers just can't) until I go to bed. I actually have three clearomizers that I switch around daily. The first one is for my morning straight-up menthol flavor 20-24 mg. to get going. The second is for when I get home - usually a sweet flavor with 16-18 mg. and then I switch to 12 mg the last two or three hours before bed. Hate to say it, but I chain vape all evening (its how I used to smoke). Both batteries (eGo-C upgrades) have a lanyard so I am never without my PV. This thing is like my lifeline right now. It's my 4th day and I have been to the local vape store 3 times already to get more juice combinations and add to my equipment.

Keep in mind, I'm a noob, so maybe this has all been said before.

36mg at a high voltage dripping first thing in the morning. It still doesnt cut it like a smoke but about ten minutes of it will give your brain a chance to decide its good.

Oh and I always keep a pack of smokes and a lighter in my pocket. Find it really helps in a security blanket type of way.

This is what worked for me to finally switch to only vaping...

I worked it out so that I smoked the last cig I had before coming home from work for the weekend. I had no smokes at home and depended purely on my pv for the weekend. Everytime I had a craving I had no choice but to goto my pv and after the weekend realized it was easier than I thought and haven't wanted a cig since. Its only been a little over 4 weeks but still haven't gone back, keep up with it and you will find a way to make it work. Btw taste/smell come back fairly quickly and smokers cough goes away faster than I expected ;-)

I'm in the same boat, I have cut down to less than half a pack a day, some days better than others. I was over a pack a day. I keep allowing myself to go out and have a real one. I have gone through several occasions that would have been multiple cigarette times and had none, party with friends, a night at the local watering hole. Yet I still go out and have one or two or more during the day. It's going to take time, I will keep working on it. Finding the right juice, right nicotine level and right PG/VG combo will be a big factor. My mouth is still getting irritated if I vape too much.

Today was bad, I smoked 11 cigs! I was down to about 7 or 8 per day. I was a pack and a half a day smoker for over 40 years, but I just can not totally quit. I have been vaping for about 2 weeks now and have cut down but why am I wanting to smoke? I envy everyone that just quit after their first vape! In the morning I need to smoke at least 4 to 5 cigs and then I am good for awhile.

Then I must have one about every 3 hours. I am trying!

Don't beat yourself up.

It was over a month before I came to a complete halt with cigs. Not everybody quits all at once. Some do. But not everybody.

I say focus on enjoying the vaping. Sample liquids. Fiddle with the nicotine levels. Try some different PG/VG ratios. You have to experiment a bit before you hit the right combinations of things that will get you to a point where vaping becomes better than smoking and you lose interest in cigs. It wasn't overnight for me.

But I'm sitting here now, realizing that not too long ago, if I talked about cigs on the forum here, I would feel a "pull" to go have one. And there are some in the house. In a cabinet, in the kitchen. I could do it. Right now.

I just don't want to. The "pull" is gone. I'm not sure when it left. But it did.

Yeah, it would be nice to be one of those folks who walked away the same day. But everybody's different.

You've cut down right? That's good. That's very good.

In the morning I need to smoke at least 4 to 5 cigs and then I am good for awhile.

Then I must have one about every 3 hours.

I know exactly what you mean.

Listen, nicotine absorption is different between smoking and vaping. Smoking is through the lungs and fast (I've read it can hit the brain in seven seconds, which is peppy). Vaping, it's a bit slower and mostly in the mouth and nasal passages. I think there can be an adjustment period where you are figuring out (whether you're conscious of it or not) how to get to X level of nicotine using this new thing.

When I first started, I had to have a few in the morning. Or at least one. Then I could "coast" with vaping. It was a while before I seemed to be able to hit and maintain the level of nic (whatever level that is for me) doing just vaping. I also had to find those "oh wow this is great!" liquids that made smoking seem so... disgusting and harsh and stinky by comparison.

I found myself "drifting down" over time. Fewer cigs every week until I just kind of slowed to a stop.

But, hey, what's a few weeks? I smoked for thirty freaking five years. So it took a month and change to stop? Meh. Better than any of the "cessation" products that get shoved at smokers (oof, Zyban, that was horrible).

Also, this method tastes way better. I found blueberry liquids! I love blueberries! :)

Do NOT, I repeat...do NOT feel bad about this. You know why? I WAS one of those that dropped cigarettes within 24 hours of starting vaping. I wasn't even trying or wanting to quit. I smoked for 30 years; smoked a pack a day of Camels for 25. After a week smoke free, I posted my "success" story here in absolute amazement and expressed gratitude for the stuff I was learning here. I was committed to staying smoke free as long as possible.

I was using 24 mg and was feeling jittery after about a week so dropped to 18 mg and switched between the two. I went two weeks, and had 1/2 of a cigarette. HATED it. Then, another week same thing.

I thought I was over the hump at 3 weeks--body mostly over detoxing, cravings pretty much gone. Thinking I was doing well, I decided to drop the nic another level. I bought a whole bunch of samples of 12mg.

Between that and some catastrophic personal crises, in the last two days I have smoked about 10 cigarettes.

I've now removed my "smoke-free" ticker, which would have shown 33 days smoke free.

I don't feel too guilty about it (although a little sad), and when I can afford to I will be buying some more 18mg and WTA juices (for those particularly rough times when I really DO NEED a smoke).

I don't intend to go back to smoking full time, but now I know that I will probably smoke here and there until I don't.

I guess the moral of the story is don't compare your progress to other people's experiences--whether it takes months or hours to quit, you can't judge yourself based on what others have experienced. Because every quitter's journey is different.

I really thought I had it licked, and I kind of got caught broadside. But I'm not giving up, and I know that you won't either.

Vape On!
