been vaping a few months, just got my 510 Boge Soft cap blank cartomizers yesterday, and am NOT loving them, I put about 10 drops in, it looked filled, I got a harsh taste and not alot ov vapor, my wife also did not get a whole lot of vapor, we switched back to the old cartridge and atomizer and it was fine. What am I doing wrong ? How many drops fills a cartomizer? Does it need to be 'broken in' ? Thanks alot

I found the best way to fill these cartos is to use a syringe so that you can fill it from the bottom up. Also they will hold alot more than 10 drops . It sounds like your problem was not filling them enough so it wasn't wicking correctly (it was too dry). That would cause the burnt taste. I actually prefer The Boge 510 soft tipped cartos (that is until I recently found the 510 ce2 clearomizers).

You can put about 20-25 drops in when you first fill them. Let them sit for about 15 minutes before you use then to let the juice get distribute through the carto. The vapor production will start to drop off and you might a get a slightly burnt smell or taste when they need to be refilled, then you can put in another 10-15 drops and use it again.

10 drops is not enough, and then you are probably singeing them,

You have to fill it. They hold about 1ml and that means about 18-24 drops depending on the size drops your bottle makes. Then you clean it up (clean the end well if it dripped, blow into the threaded end with the open end down into a tissue to clear the air channel (you should be able to see light through it). Sop up any loose juice above the stuffing. Then if it's a fresh fill of a dry blank you need to let it sit. I lay mine on different sides for 15 min or so to make sure every bit of stuffing has absorbed some juice. Some let them settle longer.

What woman said- only you dont have to wait 15 minutes, and you get a 2-3 drag warning of off flavor and low vapor, telling you that its dry. Take another hit, and it will burn. But 15 drop refil and your good. If you overfill, you can give a quick blow through it to push excess out, or vape it out, but that takes a while.

Well it wasn't me that said that - sounds like it was someone with huge drops, or smaller cartos or 100% PG liquid which might spread faster through stuffing. Or someone who thought you were talking about carts.

And the more VG in your liquid, the longer it may take to make every bit of stuffing wet. In extreme cases - thick VG and tight carto stuffing, the juice might not be able to spread to all parts of the stuffing. I am using 70pg/30vg and it takes time to soak in as I add the drops - just have to be patient.

The bad news is that if you have burnt some of the filler you may have to toss them. Sometimes they can be cleaned of the charcoal taste enough to be used but I never could get it to work for me. I went through 15 cartos before learning that they just weren't going to work for me. I often take three or four rapid puffs and sometimes, even if the carto was half full, I would singe them and I couldn't stand the charcoal taste. Lots of folks use and love them so you just have to learn how to use them correctly. I went back to carts and I do a little mod on them that allows me to use them without problems other than refilling them quite often.

The sling method works well if you don't want to mess with popping off the caps, syringes, and all that stuff.

First...pull the mouth piece cap and see if your model has a second little ring in it. If it does, and you intend to use the sling method try some with these little rings left out, and some with them left in. See which works better for you in terms of draw/flavor. I personally just leave the middle rings out all together as it makes it easier to refill.

Sling method...
1. Put a latex carto cap nice and tight on the battery end.

2. Take a second carto cap and drip about 1ml of juice into it.

3. Flip the carto upside down and shove it slowly into the juiced cap (you can just leave the mouth tip in if you want).

4. Drop the carto battery end down into some kind of lanyard or sleeve. (I use a plastic hair curler that has one end plugged with a length of string tied on the other)

5. Spin the thing for 10 seconds or so...the centrifugal force will pack the liquid down towards the atty.

6. Let the thing sit and soak a few minutes if you have the time.

7. Pull the caps off and wipe the carto real good...give the mouth end a good blow or two with the battery end in some tissue to force out any excess juice that might have flooded the atty. Wipe the carto good and clean again (note the battery end with extra care this time).

8. Cap them again and store in the fridge with the battery ends down. I reserve a couple of egg cups in the door to hold a hand full of filled cartos.

You can leave step 6 out if you're just topping off a drained cart and NEED a fast fill. You'll probably need a few long primer puffs to get the thing going tho'.

After a few times you'll figure out better how many drops it takes with less wasted juice.

Also I've found that some really thick juices...particularly menthol a few drops of distilled water stirred into the condom cap at fill time can help it wick easier through the filler.

I fill them with 18 to 20 drops slowly to let them soak in. Then I let them sit overnight. During the day, I might put 5 or 6 drops in them every 3 or 4 hours. After a few days, they get grungy tasting and it's time for a new one. Supposedly you can boil them to get rid of that. I haven't tried that yet.

As for using them, you'll get a better hit if you push the button on the way to your mouth and take long slow hits. Also, you can hit it too often. Sometimes it needs some time to rewick.
