So by virtue of my choice of traditional cigarettes (Camel Menthol Wide Lights) I could rarely find anyone selling a full carton at a time, so it was basically buying a pack every day, or occasionally remembering and doing a 3 pack special. Now that I am almost 3 weeks into vaping, I haven't stopped at any of my usual haunts for anything. Heh, I wonder if they think I dropped off the face of the planet or something. A few of these places were the type where I didn't even have to ask, if I was stopping in, they grabbed my pack for me. Almost tempted to just stop in and grab a soda at some of them every now and then, just to see what happens or what they say.

when i was a pharmacy store cashier (back when they were selling tobacco), i always remembered the preferred smokes of my regular customers. it was just another way to actually build a relationship with them and to keep myself a little more stimulated than cashing can offer. if someone had stopped coming in for smokes i would wonder if they were on vacation, moved, found another job (we catered to a lot of office folk), or just quit.
there were 3 convenience stores within a few blocks of my previous home, and the staff got to recognize me fairly well. one day about a month into vaping i stopped by the closest convenience store to get some cough drops. when i approached the till the lady behind the counter rang through my cough drops and then looked at me and said "drum?". it threw me off because they had never really asked if i had wanted tobacco along with whatever i was buying, so it kind of threw me off. i paused before i said no, thanks.
the lady at the counter said it was a good thing, but they only kept drum in regular stock because i bought it so regularly. >.<

Great post!

The one thing I DON'T miss about smoking is planning my trip to Walgreens to buy a carton every 10-12 days. I really dreaded that trip. I tried to make it coincide with something that was productive, but it rarely worked out that way.

Every time I went, I swore it would be the last time. I also hoped there would be a new checkout person who didn't recognize me for the addict that I was. I felt so stupid going into that store, paying $66 for something that was killing me. And then saying "thanks" on the way out.

Vaping has eliminated that nasty part of my life.

Since I started vaping and learned to DIY, wind replacement coils on my Stardusts, etc, I realize I can vape for less than a dollar a day! (As long as I don't buy everything in sight!) That's a good thing, since the state I live in is trying to raise taxes on analogs. The state across the river from me is trying to go up another dollar a pack. Every time I hear things like this it simply reinforces my wise decision to give up the cigs. I feel sorry for those who simply won't give up on them and try vaping.

The unintended consequence of no longer making frequent trips to the convenience store to buy cigarettes several times per week is that I never have pocket change anymore. This would be fine, except there's a coin-op laundry machine in my apartment complex. So..... long story short, I'm not sure I actually smell any better now that I quit smoking!

Ouch. Coughing up a lung full of vapor is just as painful as smoke. I swipe and pin my debit card for everything, so I almost never have pocket change anyways. Coin op machines here as well ... I just get 10 bux cash back occasionally and get quarters from work.

Something else I need to do ... I have to call Camel and remove myself from their mailing lists so they stop sending me coupons.

My convenience store guy always knew when to expect me, a pack of smokes and soda every morning at 8 am, he could almost set his watch he used to say LOL. So when I stopped in after quiting the analogs that first tiem and bought the soda ( limit myself to that 1 every morning) he had the pack of cigarettes already on the counter and scanned into the cash register. When I told him I had switched to an electronic cigarette he tried to sell me one of their disposables, then I showed him my new ego, and told him about the shop here in our town that sells them. Next morning he was showing off his brand new ego.
