Evening Fran :)

Salem, it's very hard to lose a beloved pet...they are members of the family. I worry over everything with Chase now that he's 11 years old.

Yall are gonna laugh, but out of all the fancy, purty drip tips I have, the pink one in this pic is my favorite! It's very comfortable, it's the shape I like the most, and the ceramic doesn't tear my lips off or get too hot like Dee mentioned.

Previous to Spike I belonged to a pack of Pit Bulls...Formally known on paper as El Dee's Kemosabe` and Black Betty Rubble....called Chopper and B.B. respectively...They live to be 14 and 13 so a good long life...B.B. was along about 10 when the local grocer had a long running special on pork ribs...B got stopped up....The Vet wanted to keep her overnite for observation and called the next day telling me she had lived a long life....put her down....Here's where the karma train picks me up for a ride....My Mom heard me on the phone...She saw me leave and knew my intentions were not good...She calls my Sister who happens to be near the Vet's office...Sis is the vice principle at one of the local high schools and was riding with the school deputy{once a great friend...still a friend but you know....he's a lawdog now}...They were returning to school after dropping a student at the grey bar hotel...Sis had to witness the ride off campus...I came into the Vet's parking lot wide dang open and jumped out fully intending on whipping that Vet's azz...I was held up by the old friend deputy...I'm a big cat but old boy is a much bigger cat...Try as I might I couldn't get away from him...Glad for that in hindsight...Sis was inside talking with another Vet who we just happen to know and explaining the situation...Long/short the phone call Vet got fired....the Vet we knew took up B's case{that was why B was there in the first place I thought and I was a little surprised by the switch}....Chopper made it a good 3 years past this incident...B passed about 6 months later never recovering from losing Chopper...I said there would be no more dogs and then the "Spike Incident" happened...Today I'm involved with the Harnett County Pit Bull Alliance and the Harnett Animal Welfare Coalition...Just this morning the Animal Enforcement went to a house to seize a Pit from a family...chained....body weight called a 2 of 10 and outside in these temperatures...I had been watching this situation for several weeks as had several members of both my groups...Trust AE doesn't give a damn...all they want to do is nothing...Mysteriously the dog was gone when AC showed up...The owners claim the dog escaped...Given the last I saw of the collar and chain the dog certainly didn't escape...Either the owners did away with the dog or one of the group took matters into their own hands...We successfully hammered AE into the action taken this morning.....Last year we were successful in getting the County to change an "all kill" policy with Pit Bulls at the shelter....Someday I'll be a busy man at that Rainbow Bridge...

Awe, what a nice post, LD. My sister had 2 dogs the same ages as my moms. The month after Max passed, Sam passed away at home :( That left Lucy. She has always been super spunky and just as old as the other 2. Extremely affectionate dog. She is a Chesapeak Bay Retriever. My sister gave Lucy to my mom ( sister is at my moms house several times a day so still sees her) That girl is just amazing at the spunk that she has to be her age. :) My mom has always cooked for the dogs saying that meat is cheaper and better than the bagged stuff  Now she has Lucy fattened up and there is no telling her that what she is doing is not good.

My sisters next door neighbor has a Pit that has lived his entire life on a run between 2 trees in their back yard. I bring him treats. toys, food, etc each time that I go to my moms. I even bought him a bed for inside his dog house and one for outside. I love that dog and he loves me. He would come home with me in a heart beat and never look back. If I had a fenced portion in the yard, I would steal him in a skinny minute. He has cataracts now and is almost completely blind :(

Our yard looks like a war zone and everything is iced over out there. but, we still have power :D

Morning folks :)

I "shop" for vets just as I do for any doctor for myself. I don't blame you one bit for being angry about the switch in Drs over BB! I've been very lucky to have vets for my dogs who cared much more about the animals than they did turning a dime.

Chase got restless about an hour ago, I finally put him off the bed and onto the floor. He has wee wee pads to do his business, and I think he pee'd a gallon! I guess his ear has his balance off kilter, he usually has no problem hopping off the bed. Since he's a low rider, I have a fabric covered blanket chest at the foot of the bed he uses as a step to get up and down. I've got his ear drops in my pocket to warm before I give him his first dose.

Good afternoon Ladies. Just go through splitting and covering up enough firewood to make this cold snap. It's due to start raining anytime now with strong winds. Don't know if it's remnants from what y'all got but it's gonna be a whole lot warmer here than it wuzz up there. Only one night of 30 and I'm dreading it. I'll never have to worry about going out for bread cause I bake my own anyway when we eat it, which is not very often lol.

I got ice everywhere...The combo they predicted,,,snow/sleet and freezing rain...Luckily not much freezing rain and we have power...Gotta run as I was only in to warm up a bit...

Yeah, figures that the forecast would actually be right this time

Be careful out there! I have no plans to leave my house.

We have a whopping 17* with sun peeking out. Our snow last night was just a dusting so I focused on trying to move mountains of snow away from the foundation on the west side (backyard side) The less there is left close to the house, the less basement flooding we'll have come spring thaw. I have a nice, packed path so I raked mounds of snow onto the path and dispatched them halfway across the back yard with the snow blower. Still a lot of work tho!

Dee, I need a bobcat or a small bucket loader
