You're sure right about the bad ones coming late season. We took three hits in Sept. 2004. Charlie sucker punched us and came right up the middle of the state followed by Francis two weeks later and Jeanne was my birthday present on the 26th. Charlie did the most damage by knocking the span out of the trees. About the time we got power back here came Fran, the worse one of all but the trees had been cleaned up so it wasn't so bad. Jeanne was awesome. I slept in my chair by the door on the lee side of the house with it open and watched the light show over in the towns from the transformers blowing. You are correct, LD. heavy, heavy rains here and just like in your area, our ground is already saturated from the last week of rain.
I am so bad about not watching news or weather that the first I heard of Joaquin was today when my son texted me and said that he and my grandson are prepared to high tail it up here from the coast if she changes course at all. He was only 9 years old when Hugo hit but, he suffers PTSD from it just like the rest of us that stupidly rode that sucker out. None of us will ever make that mistake again. Guaranteed.
The way it looks right now, NY may end up with quite a mess on their hands. If you pay attention, most of the really bad storms hit late in the season.
(((Rosco))) Add my prayers to the list of all those keeping you in thoughts and prayers. Please do check in when you are able to.
Stay prepared and stay safe everyone!
You're in my prayers brother. Thanks to each of you for your prayers. I really need them again I think.
I'm hoping they don't send me out of state again. It's too far and I don't really feel up for that either.
I'm praying on my knees for each of you being affected by this Phoenix hurricane. Notice I didn't say Joaquin, cuz I don't want it to hear me and come acalling.[emoji34] [emoji15]
We have friends in Virginia, D.C. & S. Carolina that I want to call, but I'm too tired to even talk on the phone. I'm just really fatigued.
Be safe and know that prayers are powerful words to our Lord, and He loves you more than we do. And we do.
Thanks again friends. I'm praying this storm goes back out to sea.
Our flash flood advisory has changed to a flood watch....I'm outta dry shoes
Joaquin's predicted path continues shifting Eastward....Let's hope that trend continues....
If ya'll can see the Sun tell it Dee says hello!!!!
Dang Hugo chase me from Daytona too Fayetteville....Forecast to hit Florida I bailed to our trailer in Santee...Hugo sliced the trailer in 1/2....A pine hit the roof and stopped when it hit the frame...Cut thru it like hot butter it did....I scrapped the trailer selling the wood to locals and the metal to the scrapyard....Sold the lot and used the cash as a down payment at Surf City....
Thanks to each of you for your prayers. I really need them again I think.

.Hurricane Charlie sucker punched us. It was supposed to go up the Gulf Coast and come in around Tampa but it took a turn and came straight at us. Way too late to run or prepare. We were fortunate we didn't sustain a lot of damage other than about 30 downed trees on our property (firewood for that winter), a few shingles and the chimney cap and one tiny corner of the roof where a tree grazed it.I hear you on the sun! Been so long that I forgot what it looks like.
Yes, Our house was split in quarters lol We had 12 trees in our house within the first hour. Worst part was that we were inside when it happened. Our neighbors came and got us during the eye. Their house was on a slab and I swear that thing moved! Never will forget the howling sound that the wind made. Still sends shivers down my spine. I honestly thought that we were all going to die. I hugged my son while crouched down in the hallway and kept apologizing for not getting him out of there in time. The next morning, everyone was walking around shell shocked. It was like a war zone and very disorienting because and familiar land marks were gone. They did keep changing the projected path on Hugo. By the time we knew that Charleston was going to be where it made landfall, it was too late to leave. never, ever again.
I pray that Joaquin stays offshore because she will be very destructive if she makes landfall.
On that note, I hope everyone has a good day. Headed out to the store and preparing to hunker down for the weekend of rain![]()
The news said cruise ships were being diverted away from the Bahamas but the ocean is rough for a long way out. Not really dangerous but not exactly a smooth ride either. I've been in worse in smaller craft.Update!
Hurricane Joaquin, Extremely Dangerous Category 4 Storm, Still Battering Bahamas; U.S. Landfall Unlikely
Horrible news for the Bahamas though. @Wuzz, i am surprised that cruise was not delayed..
