Morning folks :)

Had to find a plumber before I popped in to say g'morn. Out tub faucet decided last night that it wanted to run our hot water bill thru the roof. Had to turn the hot water supply off to the bathroom. Living here is like being in a continuous episode of "This Old House"

Happy Birthday Pokey!!

Waited all day for the plumber to get here, he takes one look at the tub faucet and starts telling us he'll have to tear out the wall to replace all the pipes, etc because he's never heard of American Standard brand and can't get replacement parts for it. Told us it would cost at least $1100 for the job, and he won't rebuild the wall. Yall have no idea how proud you can be of me for not going all mad cow disease on him!!! I politely escorted him to the door :-x

Called a different plumber and he'll be out tomorrow to replace the valve stem. Home Depot, Lowes, and a hundred other places carry American Standard brand. Best lesson learned? Don't go with nation wide name brand plumbing services...support your small local businesses!

A plumber that's never heard of American Standard? I would have been polite too and waved as he left. What's scary is how many people would have fallen for that. Support your local Joe the plumber. I spent over 45 years in a building trade and countless people have told me how scary it is to have someone like that in their home. 99% of our business came from word of mouth by our customers.

Morning folks :)

Wuzz, I've had the same treatment from auto mechanics many times. Fortunately I'm enough of a tomboy to know a little about cars, plumbing, electrical, etc. to recognize (usually) when someone is trying to rip me off.

I finally found a pic the exact faucet last night, and it was made during the 60's! It very well may be next to impossible to get parts for it, but I located 2 plumbing sources who carry the rebuild kits for it. If the plumber coming today can't fix it or replace it without tearing half the wall out, I can order the kit. The access door to the tub is on the kitchen wall, problem being it doesn't go tall enough to expose the valve assembly and pipe split off. Know idea who's bright idea that was :nah:

Lowe's here has a lot of parts for older stuff, Ace Hardware as well. I can still get parts for my 1977 Price Phister tub and shower valves. Everything else is easy enough to replace. Hope the guy coming today is a real plumber.
