just need to fix food and plop it in front of her, instead of just asking if she's hungry.

LOL... My Dad lived with my sister for his last years. No dementia, he would just I'm not hungry. She would make him food and set it down and it would be gone !

FB and Chrome are having some type of issue.

Yep Dee, Chrome decided to drop a java? video script that FB uses for their videos. I still use chrome, but sometimes I have to copy it over to Safari to watch it.

If the Firestick is for Kodi, I would definitely spend the extra $40 for the Fire TV. There's a huge difference in processor speed. Server load speeds can be slow with the Quad 4 chip as it is.

Long but productive day. Mowed, trimmed up the hedges. Had hoped we'd have decking down today but a little woops is always expected. Forgot when we adjusted size (because of an underground electrical conduit) that the decking boards were 8 footers, we need 10s  Young Tyler will be back tomorrow after he gets off work to take the shorts back to the lumber yard and get the 10' boards. They did get the posts set, skirt and joists done and squared. It's coming along...

The deck is coming along nicely....Staining treated wood....They're selling wood so fast there's no time for it to dry before you buy it...it's wet still....Before I stain it I like for it to dry for at least a couple of months...I also much prefer to paint or stain when the temps are the highest of the year....Wood grain opens up in the heat allowing stain or paint to penetrate deeper and get that good bond....Good call on returning the decking as I also much prefer no joints in the decking.......

I got heirloom tomatoes....couple rows of Blue Lake bush beans......jalepeno.....green and cayenne pepper planted.....

Griffin reunion was today....I was one of about two actual Griffins in attendance....Blew my diet all to Hell over some coconut cake and banana pudding.....Dangitt!!!!

Bov have you thought about staining and sealing, or at least stain the wood before they build it ?

What Dee said :) It was recommended that I wait a month or so before staining for those reasons. That's also why we didn't buy the lumber from Lowe's or Home Depot. Otherwise, a great idea, Wharf and Fran!

Dee, I can relate on the diet...yall don't want to know why my blood glucose was 171 this morning

I always install my decking boards tightly together...When the wood is dry there will be @1/8th gap between the decking boards.....Back when I built Mom's deck I purchased the lumber from Cuzzo at the high end building supply....He didn't figure enough decking in his program that figures such....I go back for more.....he's outta stock.....I grab enough to finish from Lowes....It's a real wide deck and there are joints in the decking....Couple months later some of the decking is curling on the ends and actually pulling free of the screws....I blame Lowes....I replace with high end only to see it happen again....a local brand named Cox Treated Lumber....Then it dawns on me it's the Lowes decking that's holding up so I start replacing with the Lowes decking and it's still holding well....Now I've got enough experience that I can judge lumber quality given a few minutes to examine.....Now a couple years back the EPA issued new regs on treated wood...It had aresenic and guess what when you run a saw through it.....I can tell the wood on your deck is what's known as yellow wood round these parts....not the old green stuff....Should be fine....My bet is with all the shenanagens going on the EPA regs will be eased and the arsenic will return....Profit above all else

Gotta be bad once in awhile:lol::lol:

You got that right, Fran!! My glucose was back within an acceptable range this morning :)

Dee, we did pick up some non essential 2x4s from Lowe's, and young Tyler pointed out that very difference between the colors to me.

The new deck at camp (on the ground, a sitting area -- the deck I built attached to the house there is fine) this summer will likely be Lowes. I can order all the materials, plus some sheets of subfloor for the ongoing old bunkhouse refurb, as one delivered load. I give them fair warning that the delivered wood needs to be true -- I have no qualms kicking twisties or otherwise sub-par boards back.

There's a little slope to the land, not much, so it'll actually sit on concrete block, small stuff up front, larger towards the lake.

The 2x deck framing will be ground contact. I'm pretty sure DW really wants a 16x16, so the frame will be 2x6 with an extra support beam down the middle, then I can run 2x6 joists at 16" spacing.

(Doing the deck all in 2x6 feels like a sleaze, but It's up to code.)

Five support points on each of the three beams (code for 2x6 beams).

Decking itself will be 2x6.

This area does get spring flooding, so I'll have to anchor it. I'm thinking a couple hundred pounds of concrete at each corner, bonded to the deck frame with galvanized bolts, should keep it in place.

Short boards will be picked up and replaced with the proper length by the lumber company tomorrow at no charge, Young Tyler will be here tomorrow afternoon (after he gets off from his real job) to start laying decking.

Mark, yours will be much bigger, sounds fun anchoring it

Lowes wood is fine and dandy by me...I always hand pick mine and have been told that's not allowed by a Lowes employee....If I'm paying I'm picking what I want and continued that day and since...Just the other day I left a fat pile of 2X8s on the floor as I culled through the stack.....2X on top of the deck makes for a sturdy deck....I've only got a landing at my back door and the top is 2X8....I glued and screwed but the salt added for ice has pretty much eaten the screws....My next construction job is the shop roof....shingles now and maybe later.....metal a possibility as well.....

It's a fun (for me, a sick engineer [emoji5]) math problem.

A 2x6 16' ground contact pt board is about 51#, displaces 0.92 cubic feet.

The complete deck will effectively use 55 boards, 34 for the decking, 21 for framing and joists.

Fresh water weighs about 62.4 #/ft3 (being a dive instructor finally proves useful [emoji5])

Water displaced by wood - wood weight is 354#, the net buoyancy of the deck. I need over 354# of anchoring if I want to hold the deck in place during spring flood.

Concrete weighs about 150#/ft3, vs 62.4# of water - net you lose about 40% of the on land concrete weight when using it as an anchor, due to the water it displaces.

I needed at least 354# of anchor, so that means about 600# of concrete (accounting for the water).

8 80# bags of concrete, use 2 at each corner, will get me there with a little margin. I'll toss in a few more bags along the edge

I'm with Tracy! Just reading it made my brain 'splode

We're getting closer, ran out of screws and had 3 deck boards with cracks. Kelly-Fredet gets to come back to my house again to replace the cracked ones. It's on their dime again...maybe they'll learn to eyeball them better! Tyler used to work for this lumber company, and has no problems with calling them out on sheety boards
