There is excellent BBQ to be found in Charleston but, not so much where I am now in the upstate. There is a place in Spartanburg called The Beacon that is very famous and ships all over the world. Last time we were there at Christmas, it was nowhere near as good as it used to be :( That vinegar based stuff that LD is talking about is out of this world good!

Bov, I guess that you and I will just have to start making our own. :)

Happy Saturday all.

When I lived in Jacksonville, Fl there was an awesome BBQ place called Mojo's. I miss that place! A big fat pulled pork sammich smothered in sauce, onions, and cold slaw...mmmmm!!

Yep. We eat slaw on our pulled pork sandwiches too. The Beacon BBQ is sliced with slaw and red sauce on it. Their onion rings are (used to be?) to die for. One big sloppy mess but, good.

2 cups cider vinegar
1/4 cup cold water
1/4 cup dark corn syrup
2 teaspoons sea salt
1 garlic clove (minced)
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp Crushed Red Pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Over high heat bring to a boil, stirring well. Reduce heat, simmer the sauce uncovered, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool, adjust the seasonings to taste, adding more corn syrup, salt or cayenne. Can be stored up to 3 months, simply cool to room temperature, transfer to an airtight jar and refrigerate.

Of course that may be a lot of BBQ sauce for just you if Katie does not eat it.

Ever try Lou Bono's on Beach Blvd.? We moved back to J'ville in 1953 and it was my favorite right up to the day I left.

Ooo thanks Salem! That sounds great :)

I don't think so, Wuzz...it doesn't sound familiar. We lived on the south side, and I was mad as hell when they closed our Krispy Creme shop  My ex worked down on the river at Fidelity Financial until spring of 2010. When he got laid off, we moved back up here to his home town to help care for his elderly mom. That's how I came to be Katie's care giver.

We lived on the southside just off Beach Blvd. Moved there shortly after they had 4 laned it and paved it. Not much out there at the time.

Hey Bov, believe it or not, the podunk town that I am in just got their very first Krispy Creme (actually next town over from us) and that place has had cars lined around the building since they opened lol It was quite the culture shock moving here from Charleston where everything was right at our fingertips and now having to drive 20 miles to the nearest Walmart. Ugh.
