Morning folks :)

Fran I don't have a kayfun, so I have no ideas to share...sorry.

Dee I'm happy to know that the new KSM deck is working for you. I cancelled my order for one out of fear of leaking. I may give my drilled out one another whirl, I replaced the broken thread post in it. 10-4 on the extra long wick!

Hey folks,we're headed out camping soon but I need a hand from the kayfun lovers. Tips and tricks on the coils builds and wicking please. I haven't had great success yet.

Hi Fran!
I still use 28 g kanthal. 10 wraps on a 5/64ths drill bit or even the shank of the included little blue handled screwdrivers that comes with Kayfuns.
Either a little strip of kgd or my organic cotton balls for wicking. One tip I can give you is not to overfill. I stop just after seeing the juice cover the window.
Hth!

The KayFun is gonna be best @ 1.5 ohms...The air to support much less than 1.3 just isn't there...That said 28 G and 8/10 wraps on a 2mm shaft will ball park those figures...I see people wick all the time trying to pick up any "secrets"...I find that some resistence when pulling the wick through yields the best results...I get it where I want it and if I feel the resistence is to much I pull it back and fourth a few times and kinda size it too the coil....You'll feel the resistence go away...Then you can trim and lay it out across the deck with the barrel off or install the barrel and go with the 1/4 snip above the barrel and alternate the tucks too the deck. I'm begining to feel the alternate tuck method may work the best...Just sort one wick leg left and one right and push them too the deck...Lay them right across the juice channels just don't pack the channel...I've combed and sorted making sure I had 100% contact with the deck and open channels....Just not worth the hassle...

I see the IPV Mini is getting an update....Pretty sweet looking single 18650 mod IMO...@ $55 and 70W I think...Hell I'd be good with 15W...I really like the old style pull and place the battery deal....USB charging and non removable battery packs kinda suck....Plus charging that Stick 50 makes one kinda nervous....No way in Hades I charge it overnight....

After digging a good three foot deep circle around the stump I headed too Lowes and picked yet another tow strap....That makes 500 ways to pull sheet at my disposal....none at hand at that moment...The stump stopped the Ranger dead...The Dodge maybe would pull it out but the risk of tearing something up increases greatly with the power...more digging in my future...It'll pay dividends having it out of the middle of the yard...The tree was one of four my tree trimming neighbor cut prior too Hurricane Fran...In hindsight I shoulda called the law then...Yesterday when 5 people came outta the tree trimmers house to smoke cigarettes on the deck I heard a "Stay outta my yard" and some snickering....5 people...all working age....11am Thursday...all enjoying free ac and checks...I damn near joined the Tea party....I took the high road with the snickering however I can be provoked....Dee is after all short for Diablo...We'll see how that all ends but trust this.... it will end...With Mom mid eighties my plan is to move there when the current situation changes...Hoping things will allow a boat house/shop to be all the tree trimmers will be able to see from there cigarette smoking area....

Yeah Bov....I guess you're right

Fran another thing I find critical is height and center of the coil....I set it flat down on the center of the air hole with whatever I coiled around still in the coil...I get the screws tight and then pull the coil up to where the bottom of the coil is just a shade below the tops of the screws...Then I make sure it's level and centered over the airhole...Put it where you want it and remove whatever you wrapped on...then I like to abuse it with some dang voltage...The old glow and cool multiple times...It oxidizes the coil and makes it take a set where you left it...I also make sure it's making full contact at this time....Not sure if you're using full contact coils or not...

Good morning, all. Just a quick fly by to let you all know that I am still around :)

We had a blast with my grandson last week. He is just at the right age to really enjoy his company. Seeing the world through the eyes of a 6 (almost 7) year old is quite entertaining ;)

Anyway, need to take my mom for pre op tests today so I have to run. Hope that you all have a great day.

Glad to hear that Salem, enjoy all the time you can get.

unfortunately we had to put our 14 year old grandson on the train home this morning. He is our first grandchild and he lived with us for his first 2 years so he is kind of like my wife's and my own boy. We each had kids from previous marriage but none together. Now we have 12 GK's and love every one of them, i'll admit Elijah is special. (don't tell anyone i said that).
