Alton Brown was awesome on Good Eats. I always liked the science aspect on some dishes and how you could make awesome meals a lot simpler. When I was in high school, the only channel I'd watch for Freshman year was the Food Network. Mmmm

I'm a geek so I always loved his scientific explanations on why things cook the way they do! And his dorky humor! I love cooking as well. If I'm ever looking for a recipe I go to him first! And Paula Dean next ;) cause I love me some butter!

Well, what do you want to cook? I've been making a black bean burger lately that I think is very tasty! And how much effort do you want to put into it? DH's favorite dish of mine is Egg Foo Young but it takes a while to make. Although I make a cheese casserole that is delish and pretty easy to make. For dessert my Heath Bar Trifle always goes fast! Let me know and I can definitely hook you up!

This article is targeted totally at my mom. We have so much stuff like this that isn't ever used.

To those things, add the bread maker. I got one as a gift years ago, used it a couple times. It sat in a closet for a while and then I unloaded it on a friend. You don't hear much about those any more!

:laugh::laugh: People should be fined for calls like that!

Vanessa's mom has one still in the pantry. I've never seen her use it. With those kinda things its all about thinking how much you can do to with it but really you'll use it once or twice a year :D

Morandir, nice :D

Harmony, I'd like to make some chicken dinners. Grilled chicken with unique side. I've also been dying to cook eggplant. It's one of my favorite things to eat but I've never worked with it so I'm afraid of ruining it.

Hmmm, well I can't really help you out there. I don't do much with meat. And I'm also scared of eggplant lol. I like it, I just never had enough courage to try and cook it. But now that you mention it, I may have to look into that! Alton Brown does have a video on it: Good Eats S5E6P1: Deep Purple - YouTube
Raw artichokes are next on my list of things to experiment with. I love cooking with jarred artichoke hearts, but have never tried cooking raw ones.

If you ever try it, you have to let me know how it goes!!

Read that article Morandir sir. The guy didn't even get in trouble for it! And the sandwich shop owners defended him and are happy to have him come back! Wha? Definitely strange.

:facepalm::facepalm: Apparently, in Florida it's when McDonald's runs out of Chicken McNuggets that the 911 lines are swamped; up north, it's when the deli sandwiches are made with too much protein and not enough fat.

And you should be. I love eggplant, but it's a doggone hassle to prepare. Just know this: the first step is to always slice it, then heavily salt each slice; allow slices to rest on paper towels until salt has drawn considerable moisture ("sweat") out; turn slices over and repeat for other side; then carefully wash off all salt and exuded liquid.

Be prepared for eggplant to still soak up a tremendous amount of olive oil or whatever else you use in cooking it!

You gotta be kidding me! Those guys deserve each other then . . . but the other folk in that community who can't get through to 911 because of such idiots don't . . .

Thanks for the tip El! I will definitely try that. I've prepared zucchini the same way in the past.

And I agree, they deserve each other!

Wow Morandir sir!! Just wow! Makes me glad I was always the one sticking up for those being bullied!
