100 years ago most taxes we pay today didn't exist, and guess what? The US was one of the most prosperous countries in the world with a BOOMING middle class. Go figure.

But back then we didn't see the need for the ever growing list of gooberment agencies that have been placed in Washington to blow your nose and wipe your aks for you. These are all reverse productivity positions in a global economy where workforces are less expensive offshore. How would anyone expect this scenario to work out in the long run.

so what happens where there are no more smokers?
or when those smokers get so poor paying for their addiction that they now feel the need to be on Foodstamps...
just a depressing thought...
Maybe if the government officals cut their pay more to what most of us are survivng on, the budget would be balance VERY quick.

Really? Is it possible that we can have these discussions without the obvious partisan comments? Please?

You can...but it ignores the MUCH LARGER and fundamental issue. The fate of ecigs and the price you will pay to vape is dependent, at least in the current political landscape, on halting these types of progressive taxes.

The federal government, as it exists now, must fund all the entitlement programs is has promised. They have to get that money somewhere. Given that most politicians are idiots who have never built a thing in their life, they take the easy road of revenue raising. They tax your pleasures.

You know, we fought a revolution because of that kind of behavior.

Well, I figured I would ask nicely in an effort to try to keep this thread on a more focused topic and away from the partisan talking points. It was work a try, I guess.

But don't you understand, the tax hike is 'for the children?'

Hey kids, who paid for your early education? Um, well you see, it was those wonderful adults who enjoy smoking that 'donated' their money to our education. Truly, it is them we have to thank. Without them, our government wouldn't have the money to edumacate us.

Unless you're a vaper willing to stand up for smoker's rights / freedom to use, you are not on the winning side. Just a matter of time until lies are sold on eCigs and THR becomes a popular inside joke. You can be glad that you don't smoke anymore, but be happy with policies that restrict / heavily tax others tobacco (smoking) use, and well, you just joined ANTZ without probably realizing it. Now, if you'll just join with the ex-vapers trying to rid the world of the evil eCigs, we'll really be in business. Did I mention they are evil?

Obama’s cigarette tax proposal goes up in smoke
http://www.politico.com/story/2013/05/obamas-cigarette-tax-proposal-goes-up-in-smoke-91043.html

Well, that was quick.

Seems like CTFK, ACS, AHA, ALA have been so busy demonizing and lobbying to ban e-cigarettes and their use that they have no time, desire or resources to lobby for laws that actually reduce cigarette smoking.

I predict the tobacco tax hike bills (that would also tax e-cigs) introduced by Senate Democrats Durbin, Lautenberg, Blumenthal, etc. will suffer the same fate as Obama's budget proposal to only increase the cigarette tax rate.
