I'm just getting into DIY and looking for an answer on the number of drops per ml. It seems the suppliers and many of the receipe calculators I've seen all say "1ml = about 20 drops". I've used various droppers including the ones included with Totally Wicked & HALO bottles and they come out to about 40 drops per ml. Is there some kind of "standard" dropper out there that gives around 20 drops to the ml?

Thanks

In my excel calculator v11 at the bottom I recorded the average each manufacturer dropper dispenses.
The closest I have found is the flavorart at 33 drops per ml. But of course it is different with different viscosities. I would recommend the higher drop numbers like 40 as you can make smaller adjustments. I really only pay attention to the drops when making small 1-2ml batches, and use ml when making larger batches. When going with larger batches the number per ml is important for the flavoring and duplicating the recipe. I always try and add that in the note section.
Hope this helps
Dan

BTW the link for v11 excel calculator is in my sig.

I agree, I have found that on average 40 drops = 1 ml.

Depends on the dripper and the stuff being dripped.

I take a clean dripper, Dripper Under Test, graduated cylinder, and the liquid to-be-dripped and count the drops to reach 2ml then divide by 2.

I return the liquid and note the approximate # of drops / ml.

I have pipettes that are pretty consistant at 20-22 drops per ml for a number of liquids. I have found some drippers up to 46 d/ml.

The drips are for small batches and many recipes need adjustment when scaled up. Usually small adjustments. It is rare that my small batch run at 2-5 ml is exactly the same at 30ml, or even 15ml.

Too many factors can affect the drip volume. Tapping, shaking, and speed will have various effects. (I hold off posting recipes till I run larger batches and get the final adjustments in.).

Really depends on how accurate you want to be. I mix for 7 people, including myself, and we like the flavors to be repeatable because a few of us are hooked on certain flavors for that vape that always helps.

Good info to know, I am basing the number of drops per ml using on a drop that comes out of a 30 ml dekang plastic bottle. No doubt that the pipette, used as the basis for the standard drop, is more accurate for purposes of consistent liquid measurements.

I've tried a few droppers I had, and after I got between (IIRC) 15 and 30 I decided that 1ml-syringes which give me 0.01ml accuracy just were not expensive enough to mess with drops. (If I get them cheap, 5 Euro cent and 2 for the needle; around 4-5 Dollar cent togehter.)
It may sound nitpickish, or more work, but it is neither. I get results I can easily and quickly replicate and which I can share without wondering what dropper the person on the other hand has.

Gah! I've been looking for syringes with graduations like that and have come up empty handed. Do you think it is easier to get those in Germany than in the states?

You get quite a few "fish eye" stares if you start asking folks about syringes, well, I do. I imagine the long hair and facial hair doesn't help there.

Any hints on where to look for these?

Thanks! got an order him them last week, but completely missed those syringes.

All I saw were 3ml with 0.1 graduations.

Great customer service, I should have asked him.

3mls are great for flavouring but not mixing juice. He has the 10mls which is adequate for doing 30mls at a time.

Yeah, I got funny looks at the pharmacies merely for asking about PG, and I have short hair. eBay's your friend there, although I finally brought mine at a shop that sells doctor's supplies. Means you may have to buy 100, but as I said: Regular price for those 1ml (bigger ones are considerably cheaper) is about 10 Euros for 100, got them for 5, special offer, needles are 2 Euros, also for 100. What the heck, they don't take up that much storage space.

I miscalculated above, I just notice: 7 Euro cent are around 9,5 Dollar cent, I calculated exactly the wrong way around. Still not exactly expensive, though.

I use on of them for every single flavour I have, safes me washing them, and when I check how high to dose them, 1% for 5ml of juice is an easy to measure 0.05ml which I can squeeze into the dropper itself without taking it off, using a needle. So convenient, especially since I use a lot of Flavourart which doesn't come in dropper bottles.

If you ask for a syringe in a pharmacy here in IL, you get a pamphlet about breaking your ...... addiction. My husband (long hair and beard at the time) needed to give our baby goats shots last year. He came home angry and empty handed but for the handful of pamphlets.

The ones from Happy Vaper are definitely going on my next order. Wish the shipping from Canada was slightly less suckworthy.
