Hey Eric, glad you are ok, except for the colitis. When I quit smoking is when I got colitis, and have been battling it since. There is something in the cigs that suppresses it. I am going to have to check out the Entocort and mention it to my Dr. the next time I see him, as the Predisone doesn't seem to do much. He changed me from Asacol to BALSALAZIDE which has made me feel better.
I am going to try some WTA liquid which has some of the Alkaloids in tobacco left in it to see if that might help.
Anyway I hope what you are taking does it for you.

Sorry to hear that! At least people won't think we're nuts! We both can't be making this up lol. I'll ask my dr about balsalaside and see what he thinks about it. Please let me know if the wta helps I haven't tried it. I got off cigs with snus first year and I heard snus is supposed to have the alkaloids. Hell I don't know lol.

Yeah, I'd be happy to use WTA if it helped! Read reports saying it was the smoking that helped colitis, read that nicotine works by itself- so I don't know.

I flared when I brought my nic down to 3mg, and flare ended when I brought it back up to 12mg. Coincidence?

I went from mild to severe flare a few months after I quit- 2+yrs ago. I'm mild-mod now and on Lialda and enemas.

Oplholik- I think Balsalazide is very low medication-wise. I'm surprised he has you on that And prednisone. It's great that both of you are feeling better.

It's not nicotine alone I think we all know this. It's got to be one, or a combo of the additives of cigs that causes remission. I've never stopped using nicotine.

I didn't know you had IBD, but I did help with your sig pic by compressing it so it could be read. I guess you missed my IBD announcement last year and I missed yours.

It's the nicotine. Nicotine is good for Ulcerative Colitis, it is not good for Crohn's. Mine flared up enough to get me diagnosed the first time at age 49 when I used ecigs to cut down to 0mg. My first GI series was at age 14 but they never could find anything.
At first they diagnosed me with Crohn's so I stayed off nicotine and kept on bleeding. Later they changed it to UC and I got doctors' approval to go back on nicotine after making sure they understood I meant with an ecig. I upped my nicotine to higher than it was when I first quit smoking.
Between the nicotine and mesalamine I'm doing good.

Asacol is discontinued, Asacol HD is still around. I was switched to Apriso and doing better on it. Plus the Apriso discount card includes me so I get it for free (should be $10 but I've told the pharmacy twice and they keep telling me it's free, I don't know how much I'm expected to argue in order to pay someone money).
Asacol also has a discount card (as do most of these IBD drugs) be sure to go to the drug's webpage and the manufacturer's webpage.

I don't get another colonoscopy for 10 years (unless I start gushing blood again I guess). I'm so happy, I'm scared to death of IVs.

Glad it wasn't Crohn's or worse Eric, sorry to hear about the colitis though. Glad you are sharing your journey because I seem to be having some abdominal symptoms myself  that I need to ask my doctor about.

He's been trying to figure my stomach out for over a year now.
Symptoms changed when I cut the analogs down and out and started vaping, I never connected the two till now. Thanks man

...on it not being Crohn's or anything scarier, Eric! Thank you all for the info in these past few posts, too. My ulcerative colitis has been flaring for the past two months, despite trying different meds, and it does coincide with me trying to really push down my nic strength. I had no idea about the connection:facepalm:. Thanks for starting the thread, Eric, both for giving your pals a chance to support you and for spreading some smarts, too:toast:!

Hey Eric!! Glad to see you got a diagnosis & are doing well! I've had stomach problems too & the tests are a pain. They eventually ruled out Crohn's diagnosed me with a really bad case of IBS. I spent countless hours in the hospital & doctors offices! I hope you're able to get a break from all of that now! I know it really sucks!!

Hey Eric!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I'm late to this party. (no party cause I also have Colitis.) It's no fun. I've had it for about 10 years now.
The best thing I can suggest is to watch your diet really really (did I say REALLY) close. Ruffage always seems to flare mine up. And I love a BIG chief salad.
If you think you might be willing to try some WTA (which I do daily). I'll recomend that you go to Aroma ejuice. He's a member here and also a supplier.
He has some fantastic flavors. I don't really know what you enjoy in terms of taste, but the 555, GI Joe, Beetle Juice, DK Tab, and my all time favorite is the P38. P38 is a menthol but it's a really good menthol.
Prayers and thoughts to you my Brother.

I love to eat. The fasting is torture. All I could think of the last time was bacon cheese burgers. After the procedure (VERY messed up from the sedative) I told my friend who was driving me home that I wanted to stop and get a monster bacon cheese burger from Hardee's. She started to argue with me. The nurse said blah, blah, blah. I don't remember saying it but she still picks on me for cutting her off and saying "Don't poke the bear, just make it happen". Apparently, I was fairly docile after I got my burger.

I'm hoping you get nothing but good news tomorrow.
Lota Burger is 'the' burger place around here and I think your friend should have driven you straight to one instead of Hardee's. lol There's nothing like a double meat and cheese, green chili Itsa burger. And now I want one. Thanks. :p
Sorry you only got a lousy pizza Eric but very glad to hear things went smoothly and you've got liveable answers. And it's OVER. :)

Wow, another one. Maybe we need an IBD/IBS group on ECF :)

Diet is very personal. Yes I had the runs most of my life and I bled occassionally back then too. But I didn't really start scary bleeding until I started needing to add fiber to my diet.
During my good period I was able to eat massive amounts of extremely hot peppers. That's all I can find to blame for the period of treatment that never happened that the colonoscopy found.

About all you can do is figure out what does and doesn't work for you and ignore what does and doesn't work for others.

Thanks brother. I really want to try the the wta's so I'll give aroma a shot soon. I primarily vape tobacco flavors so it's a win.

I like trying different food chains from across the country. I'm from the Miami area and we didn't have whataburger which is awesome here. I have to add that lota burger to my list. I also want to try in and out burger and big boy burger. I've eaten the frozen white castle but I really want to go to one of those as well.
