Boy oh boy does that global warming thing have me worried.:D
They shut down the bridge because of falling ice, That only leaves a couple hundred thousand people stranded.

It wasn't bad with the snow but then it sprinkled rain on top then froze. It's a mess. All the trees in town have so much ice on them that the limbs are breaking off. My Vehicle had a half inch coat of ice on it.

It was 72 and sunny here today.
Ya but you have to put up with tornadoes. This doesn't happen here very much..

It's not all bad, I got my 2Tb today. Yee Haw.

Oooo be careful 5c!

We are forecasted to get about 4-6 inches of the lovely white stuff overnight tonight until mid day tomorrow. Joy!!!

My puppy was spayed today, so I have no choice but to go out in it tomorrow to pick her up. I'm not a huge fan of driving in snow/ice.

Yes, like Bov, do be careful.

Our weather here is nothing new, we are going on day 3 of heavy snow and have at least 24 inches, but it is likely more. I only threw out that number because this morning I asked the hubby how much snow he thought we had (I can't judge that stuff) and he said "at least 24 inches" but it has been snowing for several more hours!

I'll take our weather over others though, as 5card said we do not get Tornadoes. We also do not get earth quakes or hurricanes! The only real thing we have to worry about is the super volcano in yellow stone. I've been told if the Yellowstone Caldera blows, we are actually at the outer edge of the blast zone!

I was in your neck of the woods the other day. You get considerably more snow most years than we do further south (at least for the last couple of decades - it was about the same in the 70s and 80s though). It's a good place to own a 4 wheel drive.

As to tornadoes - There were a pair of them that crossed the edge of the lake by bigfork and destroyed a barn in '73 or '74, so they aren't impossible in your general area. There was one in the Helena valley in '75 and I've heard of lots of them in the Eastern part of the state around musselshell, roundup, miles city etc.

I like the snow. I like bitter cold temperatures. It thins out the crowd. Since the population started booming in the late 90s, it has been more and more difficult to find solitude even in remote areas. But once the mercury drops farther than 20 below, I can find myself alone even in relatively populated places. -- And I don't mind driving when there is snow and ice... except when the roads are full of people who are unaccustomed to such driving conditions.

I imagine there is the occasional tornado, I believe we even had a small earth quake (but I did not feel it) We however moved here in 1999 so the events you described are long before my time and sound far and few between. I lived in South Florida for 10 years before making way back out west. So a few Tornadoes every few decades, is better then a few hurricanes every few months!

I too love the snow, at least I do until the end of March, then I must admit I start to tire of it. And the more snow we get the more exciting it gets! I have a good set of snow tires so driving in the snow is no biggie. Most people around here are pretty used to driving in our conditions, but there is always at least one trouble maker in every crowd. Still it is better then some states I have lived in where a slight snow flurry makes you wonder how 90% of the people on the road got a drivers license!

I am very fortunate to still have a bunch of solitude around me. My closest neighbor is my mom (she is sometimes too close for comfort but it is family so does not count!) Besides, technically I am scouting on her property :p and after that the next closest "neighbor" is a few miles away. I try to avoid the trips to Kalispell to avoid the crowds. And it is funny that I know think of Kalispell as crowded considering I grew up less then an hour from New York City!

I envy you all with your solitude! I can't even fart without the neighbors hearing :( Hubby was out in the back yard smoking a cig last night and some doofus neighbor kid was tracking his every move with a laser light...at 1am! We're in a small town but only about 20 minutes from Hartford.

I'll be shoveling snow later in the day, just waiting for it to stop. Only a few inches tho.

I've only been out here for 6 1/2 years Bov. I bought this place in the summer of '05 and sold my place in "suburbia" (closer to Detroit). I did it at the right time too. I sold that tiny bungalow in 6 weeks for $124,000.00. I was just told by a friend that he saw my old house listed as a foreclosure for $27,000.00, nearly $100,000.00 less than I sold it for 6 years ago. Glad I didn't wait much longer.
I like it a lot better out here but truthfully, it does get a bit lonely some times. It's a big deal to me when a friend comes out to visit. I'm a good hour or more from everybody. That's why I like the forums and LOVE to throw parties. :)

I have to agree with Mist. We came from South Florida, where if you did not have privacy fence the neighbors could see into your bathroom window from their own if shades were not closed. I came home a few times to find neighbor kids swimming in my pool or when people had a party their overflow cars would be parked on my lawn!

So I went from basically no yard to 200 acres and a from a pool to a 30 acre lake!

It does sound great BUT Mist is right it gets lonely. I am 45 minutes to the closest store. I used to have a pretty nice social life, dinner parties etc. My house was NEVER empty and I usually had a friend or two "crashing" at my house for a few weeks here or there (sometimes longer, but that is another story) Now friends and relatives only visit in the summer time (and summer is short here) and even local friends from Kalispell (the town that is 45 minutes away) don't want to head out this way because the drive is too long.

Seclusion has its ups and downs and comes with a VERY long driveway to plow!
