Last year I got a deal when I picked up a Dewalt 20v string trimmer and blower combination. I'm still very happy with how they work... but after getting the Greenworks G-Max 40v 19" cordless mower, I was thinking about converting over to using their tools so I could just use one type of
batteries.
So I found a Greenworks G-Max 40v 14" String Trimmer ( minus the battery/charger since I have those ) that also attachment capable. I got it yesterday and took it out to see how I liked it... damp grass and all ( we had an early morning storm that brought 1/2" of rain with it ).
I believe the cutting performance vs the Dewalt is a little bit better but I may be wrong and it may be due to the strap that it comes with making it easier to control ( the Dewalt didn't supply a strap ). Installing new string into the spool should be much easier since you don't need to remove it, just feed a length of line through the hole and wind it onto the spool, with the Dewalt you removed the spool and then hand wound both strings.
Like many of it's gas cousins... it's also attachment capable and will allow me to add other attachments from most other brands like Craftman, Ego, Ryobi, Troybuilt etc. That means at some point I can pick up an edger attachment if/when I want nicer edges than what I get with the string trimmer... or a tiller or whatever other attachment I deem handy.
Currently I'm arguing with myself about picking up a blower... The Dewalt blower works great but it's 20v battery can charge in half of the time that the Greenwork's 40v
batteries... With the Dewalt, I would trim first, put the battery on the charger and mow... by the time I finished mowing the battery would be fully charged again so I could blow the sidewalks clean. Of course if I use the Dewalt blower now... it's battery would be fully charged since I used the Greenworks
batteries for everything else... the downside is still having two chargers and battery types to mess with.
