Hey y'all, wants a good laugh??
OK. On our road, the Quinnipiac River is just across the street, maybe 25 yards behind some condos there. There's also a Water Authority station there, something to do with pumping. Small building, maybe 1/4 the size of a house, done over to look like a house, to fit in with the neighborhood. They rebuilt/refurbished the place about 5 years ago or so. Also put in an alarm system with flashing red light on front of the facade for when something or other there malfunctions. Over the last few years that alarm has gone off 6 or 8 times, but someone usually arrived to attend to it in fairly short time (hours, maybe). On 9/9 it started sounding again. For the next FOUR days. We though surely someone was aware of it and it would be taken care of. Nope. Finally on the 12th (FOUR days) my wife called the police non-emergency number, told them this alarm has been going off all this time. A crew arrived later that day, the alarm stopped and everything was hunky dory. Right?
Nope again. Opened the mail today and there was a bill from something called the New Haven False Alarm Reduction Reduction Program, coordinated by the police department. OK, here comes the punchline...And I quote:
"On 9/12/2016 at 10:40:56, the New Haven Police Department responded to this address for your first false alarm activation. As per the New Haven Alarm Ordinance this activation was determined to be false. Due to your alarm not being registered at the time of this false alarm, a ninety-nine (99) dollar civil penalty has been assessed. Other fines will be assessed for further false alarms: 2nd-$75, 3rd-$150, 4th plus-$250."
So, my alarm system isn't registered. Problem with that is I DON'T HAVE an alarm system!
Tried to get
through to them today but was too late in the day, gonna do just that tomorrow.
But think of it...this happens on the weekend of the 9/11 anniversary, a public utility has an alarm sounding for four days, and this is the result??
Remember that thing about "if you see something, say something"? Yeah, right.....
