Not taking one side or the other... it's more of an OCD thing
Usually, the initial post processing I do is to recreate the shot and get things to look the same as what I saw and what encouraged me to take the picture. So when I finish that part and upload the image and it changes from what I saw initially to something else... the OCD kicks in. So the added edits I did were only there to compensate for those changes. It wasn't about which was better or worse for me... it was about getting it to look the same as what it started out as. The last edit was a subtle one, just added to the exposure ( +1.07 ) a touch and dropped back the highlights ( to compensate for the exposure change ) so the branches that were barely showing originally, would show up again.
I didn't mean to sound negative at all. Sorry if I did come across that way. I know what your train of thought thru that was and I've done the same myself before. Nothing can be accomplished if it's not tried fer sure
