Want some free music? ... A free album of Blues Rock by Joe Bonamassa

I just downloaded a Free Blues Rock album!

They'll ask for an email address and then they'll send you a link to the download. Unzip the download and then if using an iPod or iPhone... you'll need to transfer them using iTunes. On Android or other devices, you just copy the MP3's to where you want ( or your device needs them to be at ).

Speaking about lawn work... :D

I've been looking at ( ie pre-shopping ) some of the newer stronger cordless string trimmers they have out now.

My corded trimmer is now a couple of years old ( or more ) and will likely give it up before much longer. It also uses the thin 0.065" line that breaks way too often, in fact that is the only real complaint I have with it besides being tied to a cord. I'm also on a smaller suburban lot, so a gas trimmer would be overkill not to mention having to mix the fuel/oil and the noise they make.

Dewalt has a 20v ( as well as a 40v that I'm not looking at ) lithium-ion model with a brushless motor that I'm interesting in most. It has a 5ah battery that can work for about 30 minutes on high and about an hour on low speed, uses dual 0.080" line and it weighs in at 8.5lbs. Another feature I like is that it has a bump feed instead of an automatic feed, so I can control when new line is feed out instead of it controlling it for me. All of the video reviews I've seen are very positive. Many have said that it feels like a commercial quality unit even though it's in the higher home level market.

I've also been considering a Ryobi 40v that also has dual 0.080" line and bump feed ( they have several 40v models, some single line and some auto feed ). The main advantage I see with it is with how you reload the line... The batteries are at a similar price as Dewalts 20v batteries, so that's another advantage it brings. It's downside that I see is when cutting down tall ( 2-3ft ) weeds, they often get tangled onto the head much more than I've seen with the Dewalt brand during the reviews.

Either one should be good to trim an acre or less on a single battery. Dewalt has several ( 50+ ) other cordless tools that use their 20v batteries including a really nice blower that I'd consider at some point. The Ryobi trimmer is part of their "Expand it" line, so has other attachment heads you can use with it. It also has a 40v blower as well as a 40v lawn mower that uses the same battery. In fact, the downside on the Ryobi ( the tall grasses issue ) wouldn't be an issue for me since I seldom ever get grass that tall even in the corners I may miss from time to time... and the other 40v tools, mostly the lawn mower are certainly compelling enough to consider. IN fact, in one video review... a guy trimmed, then mowed and finally blew clear his front lawn all with one single battery, granted it wasn't a large front lawn.

I went for the Troy Built gas model, but it is a 4 cycle so no oil mixing.
I have over an acre, and a LOT of fence to trim up against.
I have the trimmer and the edger attachment, but seldom use the edger.
Also picked up the electric starter, and that really makes is a breeze to start.
Just have to make sure that I run the tank dry to clean out the carb so that it doesn't get varnished up.

Welp (new non word), I finally caught up with you guys and dolls shenanigans and found it very entertaining and educational. I cut a third of my lawn today and will cut the other two third "when I feel like it".

I returned home yesterday after a delayed flight of two hours. There is nothing like waking up early in the morning to be on time and then have something like that happen. You all know I sleep late.:p:D

All that aside, I had a very enjoyable visit being pampered by two sisters, two niece, two cousins, one grand niece and my mother (perks of being a lone male). I tried to pamper my mother but she would not let me.:):)

The higher end cordless now are pushing the boundaries between gas and electric if not exceeding them now... the two models I mentioned would probably be ok for an acre + size job with more than one battery... but it'd also probably be pushing their capabilities. There are even higher voltage units that I haven't looked at that are likely to match a gas model in performance now. I'd judge the two I mentioned as just below a gas model although just be a little bit.

After seeing the video's on cordless tools like lawn mowers ( both push and riding ), trimmers, edgers and the like... I'm uncertain where the boundary lies on when choosing between using gas and electric these days. I'm certain after a point ( in lot size ), that gas still makes the most sense but as I mentioned, those boundaries are really getting blurry now.

RD some of the things I've found about trimmers don't know about battery ones but I'll bet the battery needs lots of maintenance in the winter so it doesn't go kaput when you could be out building snowmen and stuff :)

#1 you want one with a straight pole to the head, lot less bending over that way, your back will thank you :)

    #2 anything smaller than .095 string is a waste of time,JMHO :)

#3 A 2 stroke spinning at about 12,000 rpm's is a great tool to use when you know "those"....-head neighbors are trying to sleep :D

The newer tools are now using lithium-ion batteries... very similar care to the batteries we use in mod's these days although the chemistry in these allows them to store a charge longer than what we use. During the storage portion of the year... store each cell at their storage voltages ( which I'll have to find out for these but... ) on our mod's, that voltage is 3.7v per cell. Expected lifespan is at least 3 years but often can go more if taken care of.

you want one with a straight pole to the head,

Both of the ones I've been looking at... are straight. I'm still not sure why someone would get a curved shaft trimmer...

I fully agree... if you are doing a lot of it and if doing it commercially, nothing smaller than the 0.105 string. Still, I'm not doing anything that requires much... of course I'll be cussin' myself if I ever end up on an acreage :D
