You're correct that I did enjoy a bit of the thunder and lightning action the last few days... no doubt. Unfortunately I didn't get any shots of it, from where I was at, there just wasn't enough clear area between me an the action when it happened for me to feel safe about it, most of what I could see only happened almost on top of me with the rain already coming down. In addition, thankfully none of the tornado action was too close either...

Anytime I can help..
Although I'm not sure it's the "awakes" part, the slight headache part or just lack of focus due to the project I'm also working on... just say it's all of the above![]()
okaysdats gonna takes ferebersJust because I wasn't able to get out and snap any shots ... Doesn't mean I've been sitting on my laurels.
For some time I've been scouting around the internet for premade maps that I can use in conjunction with my primary radar software. Up to now, I've been using some that were made back in 2010, so to say they are a bit dated is an understatement. I have seen some that were updated in 2014 ( from the same source I got the 2010 versions from ) but they "shorted" them like they'd done on the others I've got copies of.
Technically the stronger radar sites are listed as having a 550 mile diameter range ( basically their effective range ) but many are getting almost a 600 mile range. The maps I've found available only have about a 300 mile diameter... not to mention are still a couple of years old. In addition, they were also not complete in that they didn't have many of the smaller country roads so they could be smaller files which make them load much faster.
About a month ago... someone did post a county by county ( the most detailed type ) set of maps for each state that they got from the US Census bureau ( Tiger maps ). That is a lot of work in itself, but they still aren't compiled and joined together so you'd still have to manually load about 350 county maps ( give or take since the number of counties needed will vary ) of them for each radar site instead of just one big one.
So on Weds, I started getting things together that I'd need to do the work. I found a program called QGis to join and edit the maps together. Started learning how to use the program since I've never done anything of this type before. Thursday I actually started on the first map for a radar site. It took me about 5 hours or more... first I had to get a list of the counties to join together, then learn how to do what I'd read about... and finally trim them down a little to just the radius I chose ( 295 miles radius or a 590 mile diameter ). Each site I've done since has been just a little quicker with the one I did last night only taking just over an hour.
I've completed 4 radar sites now and have a little under 200 more to go...![]()

I Loves PizzaDoing good. The girl is eating pizza and putting together a puzzle. The dog is laying on my feet. I have been working on building a workbench when I am not doing chores. Suppose to be hot here this week, at least for us. Wildfires suck, I sure don't miss the Colorado ones.
Tell him I said hi! We been running around nakid too, but just cause we like it.My main excitement for the month is the girl bought me a pool robot to clean the pool! Saves me about 8 hours a week and my back! I can sit on the side drinking a beer and driving it like a submarine or I can let it drive itself.

dats sounds like a good thang
