My Dad's 7 year old computer was starting to have problems with it's hard drive... So Mom had me order a new solid state drive for him for his Christmas present from her. So we had planned to do the replacement tomorrow only problem is now they are forecasting possible snow starting in the afternoon. Since I didn't have anything work-wise happening, I headed up there this afternoon.
So before I start working on it.. I thought it best to look at everything and take some notes of which programs, printers etc he was using. Then I noticed his wireless internet connection was on, then off, then on again... thinking it was just the old router I'd given him a few years back... Didn't think much about it other than it'd be a bit inconvenient since some of the software we'd need was going to have to be downloaded again.
Got Windows reloaded onto the new drive and between the on again off again internet connection, even got most of his software reloaded. The rest of it I can do remotely once the internet issue is fixed... So I just got home a bit ago and as is the rule, was going to call to check in so they'd know I got home ok... Only problem was that I kept getting a couple of rings and then a fast busy. So I rang my Dad's cell instead and as usual, he'd left it in the back room so didn't answer it. Finally got a connection and couldn't hear anyone actually answer. Then he called me from his cell and said his home phone wasn't working. So now the question is whether it was his router or his cable modem ( that the phone also works through )...
Hopefully the cable company will get it worked out soon ...
Oh... btw... now his 7 year old computer boots up in about 25 seconds instead of a few minutes... so at least one thing went well.
