I've been following (along with the rest of the country) the coverage of all these tornados, in Oklahoma, as well as Missouri. Just terrible, and heartbreaking to see the devastation. I've been wondering how close these have been to your locale. I've seen your morning check-ins, so I'm assuming that you haven't suffered damage. Hope I'm correct. Also, OBG up there. Hope he is managing also.
It has really been a busy storm season so far in Oklahoma this year. While the NWS has a list, it's a bit behind with the most recent tornado reports, they've only posted the ones up
through May 7 and show at that time we've had 35 verified in the last two months.
Last Saturday evening, at the same time of the latest El Reno tornado, there was another circulation around Minco ( just south of El Reno ) that formed at almost the same time that was heading in my direction. Normally, when one starts about 5-10 miles away, I have 10-20 minutes to get to safety. This one had started just over 20 miles away and only gave me the same amount of time. I just got to my work ( that has a basement ) when the gust front moved in. Luckily a tornado didn't form from that until a little later. I was really lucky that it didn't drop a tornado and also that it didn't move as quickly as the one that hit El Reno.
These were out of the normal situations. Both areas or circulation formed when none were expected to well after things had cooled down into the low-mid 60's. Both moved very quickly, at least twice as fast as typical. The front that contained these, continued to form tornadoes ( in addition to the other warnings ) well past 2am. I suspect it continues into Missouri, but just as many of the other recent storms, it was late and I didn't follow them any further.
Previously, Saturday morning, my folks and myself went to visit 3 different cemeteries ( normally it's 4, the last was close to some flooded areas so we didn't get there this year ) to place flowers on the gravesites. The first one we visited was 1 1/2 miles north of where the El Reno tornado touched down. We got off of I-40 and drove north right past that location and came back by on the way back. Had we waited until Sunday as we'd debated, it would have been difficult to make it to that cemetery to pay our respects.
I don't know how many storms went close to OBG. As I mentioned, most have been later in the evenings and I seldom have the option to stay up as late as it would require to monitor them into his area. I suspect he keeps a good eye on the storms there also.
