Well... it was a close one...
Today, my folks and I were planning to visit the 3 cemeteries we'd put flowers on family grave plots and pick them back up again. There was also a 4th smaller one we'd hoped to get to last weekend but with it being close to the flooding, we decided to not chance it. Besides, rain was forecasted and it would have been close had we gone there also.
This week, the NWS did show a very slight chance of rain for today, starting around 1pm. As it turned out, they weren't off by much, it made it to Norman where I live by 2pm, more on that in a bit. We were going to the El Reno cemetery first, so we ended up driving right past where last weekends tornado came down since it was only 1 1/2 miles south of the cemetery. The mobile home park and motel were certainly a disaster not to mention the other spots right there that sustained damage.
We finally finished with the last cemetery right about 1pm. Looking at the radar, the storms were just about 30 miles to our NW heading our way. Mom asked if we could stop in Okarche for some lunch, as we got closer to it and the rain to us, I asked her if it'd be ok to pass on it or we were going to get wet. I know I didn't want to drive back home in the rain either especially with all of the traffic on the highways. Thankfully, she wasn't too disappointed ( I think ) and it's a good thing, as we were heading back and about the time we got to Piedmont, we started getting some rain. After that, we pulled ahead of the rain a little and made it to their house. After a quick bathroom break... I left their house with the sound of thunder almost a constant rumble.
I needed to stop by the grocery store on the way. So I diverted a little out of my way and got there before any rain. There was still that almost constant rumble just to my NW, so I hurried on every lane of the grocery store I could. I even when through the self check out so I wouldn't have to wait in line. As I got outside, the gust front had just past and it was blowing everything around the parking lot. As I left, every stop light was red, about 2 miles from home, the rain just started. Got to the house just as the rain let go an got just a little bit wet. I may have made it completely dry had I not taken the bathroom break at my folks...
