Happy Saturday everyone. Yesterday was a disaster! I had a haircut and the shop I go to only has street parking (on a very narrow BUSY street), so I parked at the strip mall next door, which doesn't have ANY handicap parking spots (illegal!), so I had to double park to be sure I could get my wheelchair in and out of my car if someone parked next to me. Well I guess you are only allowed to park there if you are going into the strip mall... So right as I was getting ready to leave, I looked out the window and noticed my car...on a flipping tow truck, being taken away!!!! I was only in the barber shop for 30 minutes, my barber knows which shop called to have it towed and I was parked right in front of their store. So the lady OBVIOUSLY saw me get my wheelchair out of my car and go next door, she didn't come out and ask or even tell me to move, she didn't come next door and say that I needed to move my car, she just had me towed because "I should have read the signs". So, $277 later, I got my car back. My mom was close by my barber shop and came and got me, we basically followed the tow truck to the towing yard, they hadn't even got it off the truck yet. Grrr!!! I hope I have a better day today and that you all have a great day too!!!

You probably already know all this, but federal law requires public accommodation and commercial facilities provide accessible parking for the disabled. I suggest you file a complaint against that shop owner, with the City, State and Fed gov't for discrimination and failure to provide adequate parking:

Spokane Municipal Code:
City of Spokane - Municipal Code

State of Washington ADA parking requirements, WSDOT:
WSDOT - Complying with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): Planning and Design Resources for Local Agencies

WA State:
Washington State Human Rights Commission

ADA requirements:

2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design

Fed law re: minimum number of parking spaces required:

2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design

My mom went in and chewed her out, my barber went in and chewed her out, my sister posted on the neighborhood business district Facebook page and my aunt called and asked for the landlords phone number and the lady told her she didn't have it, so my aunt chewed her out too! Ha! Now they are getting a big fine for not having handicap parking! Yep, this huge mess all because she had my car towed! Serves her right! Also, word of mouth can be a businesses best or worst advertisement and I know a lot of people!

What comes around goes around. I'm glad to see she is getting what she deserves.

This stuff is going around... My husband's niece came over yesterday and evidently a teacher got physical with our great nephew last week at football practice... He went and got a uniform on with helmet and squared off so when our great nephew took him he got ...... and grabbed our great nephew by the face mask of the helmet and was slamming his head yelling at him not to use his helmet... This is not the first time this teacher has been inappropriate with a student and the school just took him off as a football coach... We were encouraging our niece to go higher up and if need be get an attorney
