Hey Urge,
Here are some things that could be valuable for you:
1. Insert battery, positive side up. You might want to grease the threads a touch, with either Noalox or Vaseline, if they're tight.
2. Once you find your preferred voltage, hold both buttons ("-" and "+") for about 5 seconds to lock it there.
3. Press the red power button seven times (fast) to check your remaining battery level (displayed in volts).
3. Press and hold the red power button for seven seconds (or so) to turn the device off (to prevent pocket/.... firing).
I think that's all the key stuff. But others, or Eric, might chime in with more.

Why do you need to use the flat top battery? I bought 2 AW IMR 18650 batteries from Eric but they are not flat top batteries. They do however fit so can I use them?

Those are the ones that I'm using. I saw that reference too. But they seem to be working fine. I think one of the older models was slightly shorter, and these wouldn't allow it to completely close. That's what it looked like to me, at least, in one of the video reviews.
Yes the IMR are the proper batteries. They don't have to be flat top.
I bought a Pila charger to go along with this but the batteries don't fit unless you unscrew the post on the positive end of the charger. Does anyone have this charger and figured this out?

Ooh, good for you! Ok, here is the end all be all most comprehensive look at a lava tube I've come across. This will tell you everything, from how high the lava tube will let you fire each carto atty (there's a bunch of charts about midway through, and I believe you can download them for yourself in the 'follow up photos') without dropping your voltage, to how long your battery will last. Should be required watching for anyone considering one, imo, who uses anything lower ohms than say a 3.0ohm boge type carto. Anyway, this should tell you all the ins and outs of function. Its long though... close to 40 mins. The first half is pretty much basics, and the last half is where Phil gets into the charts and specifics on how the 2.5 amperage restriction may or may not affect your vaping. Very handy, since the LT will drop voltage if your load plus display voltage exceeds 2.5 amps, and this way you know what you're really vaping at. Good luck! I hope you love it!

Thanks orachel, I read that awhile back when I was trying to decide what to buy. I found a manual to download on Google. I don't think I could sit thru another 40 minutes of that review by PBusardo-way to long!

rofl.. yup, it is epic long. Wasn't sure if you were new to vv or not... its pretty important if you are, and aren't sure which end is up yet, pretty long and unbearable if you're not. lol Glad you found the manual, though!
