After a few emails we've worked everything out perfectly, payment has been sent, and shipping will be hopefully soon :) Eric is a really nice guy, we just had some massive miscommunication going on LOL! I'm really glad I stuck around and decided to order from DiscountVapers, and I know I'll be ordering again in the future!

Hi Guys/Eric,
I got an Ovale V8 a few days ago, but only got my batteries this morning (AW IMR's) and when I put them in the Ovale I got the Ch code a previous poster had... I pulled the batteries and charged them, cleaning all the connectors and popped them back in and Ch again? It happens if I unscrew the carto or tank, the blue light flashes 3 times and the Ch stays on continuously. When I screw the carto or tank back on I can hear it fire for a second then the screen clears and the light stops flashing.... It's making me a little nervous as the firing when reconnecting is making me think it is firing continuously with no carto on. Swtiching on or off makes no difference, still does the same thing..... Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Again, I placed an order on Saturday at 9am and it arrived on Monday. It happens often (only with DV) yet it remains beyond my ability to comprehend.

I know you didn't hand deliver it, Eric, but thank you for whatever graft you're paying to the USPS. I and we appreciate it.

I think you got lucky and I was just about to go to the PO and yours came in one time..

to me this sounds like shorting on the carto?
anyone else can chime in on this one, just what it seems like to me (me not being an electrical engineer)

But the possibility of firing without it being "on" worries me a bit. I'll replace it if need be.

I originally posted this on the 2nd page of the V8 review thread, where it might get buried and go un-noticed ... hoping for a few opinions here

ok, the V8 hits hard, it rocks ... but what about taste ?

I use a Buzz Pro and a backup Lavatube and there is a noticeable difference between the 2 using the same carto, same tank, same juice ... I can switch the tank and the difference in taste is noticeable ... I'm sure it has something to do with how the power is supplied, just my guess tho ... and it's not my taste buds, I been vaping too long, there is definitely a noticeable muted taste ... so, how is taste using the V8 ? ... in comparison to a higher end mod, i.e Provari, BP, etc

I've tried almost every version, except the very latest, of the Vision/Stardust, whatever it's called, and I've been disappointed every time, it never lived up to the hype ... once bitten, twice shy, thus the request for a V8 taste review

Let's start with the basics. When you put the batteries in the V8, WITHOUT ANYTHING ATTACHED, does the display go to the 5.0 Setting? This indicates that the V8 circuitry has completed a "boot up" check succesfully.

If the answer to the above is YES, can you adjust the voltage up and down? If the anser is YES, set the V8 3.2 or 3.3.

Do you have a way of measuring the resistance of the accessory that you're attaching? A Provari or a Volt Meter? If so, is the resistance of the coil above 1.5 Ohms?

And a final question, does the "Ch" code appear without activating the V8? Or does it appear when you try to fire the V8?

I have never personally seen a "Ch" code on my V8. I have seen "--" on a few occassions when I've inserted fresh batteries. When that happens, I remove the batteries, wait about 15 seconds, and re-insert the batteries and then I always get the "5.0"

FOR ERIC - Realizing the difficulty communicating with the oriental suppliers, have you asked them if they have a list of the "Error" or "Fault" Codes for the V8? That would be useful in sorting out potential issues on the V8.

K, I had the ch code on one of my 'super shorty' 1.7ohm resurrectors, but none of the others. I'm NOT at all a techie person, but I assumed the resistance on that one had dropped down REALLY low, and the v8 just didn't like it. lol Curious as to an actual opinion, though. ;)

Someone asked about the V8, tastewise... I've got a V 1.5 lrider stainless vtube, a vision tox, had a v6, and got the v8...I think its my fave 'vape' of all my units. I vape a bunch of pvs at once (yeah, I'm a flavor taster, so like a little of everything loaded and ready to go), but if I really wanna taste something, like a new juice for the first time, I put it on my v8. The v8 is a strong vape (can anyone tell me once and for all if this unit uses PWM? I've been assuming that's why it so intense, but not certain of that by any means), so the flavors, to me, seem more intense at a slightly lower voltage. For instance, if I usually vape something at 4.7v and get good flavor, I'll get slightly better flavor than that on the V8 at 4.4v. Make sense? The only time that doesn't seem to be the case is if I'm using an organic juice at over about 4.3v or so... but that's organic juices not liking high heat, and fizzling, has nothing to do with a downfall of the v8. I really do adore the vape and the taste, everything, on the v8. Its better than the v6, which I adored, but the v8 doesn't have the annoying light staying on problem, and its fully incremental. Killer unit. Really adore the size and shape of it, too, which is rather odd for me, since I'm sort of a box mod hater. It isn't at all boxy, and feels totally natural in your hand.

And Samash, so glad you boys worked it out! I felt like poo last few days, or I'd have popped in and told ya... Eric just doesn't screw people around. lol He seems to be fundamentally opposed to it. rofl He's like that painfully honest vendor that'll tell you when something he's selling isn't the best bang for your buck. I knew there had to be some miscommunication going on, but just was flat on my back feeling pucky, so glad you guys got to the bottom of it. But hope you'll stick around, for sure. I'm not a huge client cause I don't have a huge amount of moola to spend, but Eric is definitely my fave vendor, and I have quite a few that I like. He's just a generally good guy, who treats people fair, and prices things fairly. Not too common these days, especially to find all three in one guy. lol

Let's start with the basics. When you put the batteries in the V8, WITHOUT ANYTHING ATTACHED, does the display go to the 5.0 Setting? - Yes - This indicates that the V8 circuitry has completed a "boot up" check succesfully.

If the answer to the above is YES, can you adjust the voltage up and down? - Yes - If the anser is YES, set the V8 3.2 or 3.3. - Done

Do you have a way of measuring the resistance of the accessory that you're attaching? A Provari or a Volt Meter? - Yes - If so, is the resistance of the coil above 1.5 Ohms? - Yes - I have tried - Stardust type clearo reading 2.4 ohms, Stone Tank at 1.9 ohms and my E2 Tank at 2.9 ohms.

And a final question, does the "Ch" code appear without activating the V8? - With batteries first inserted it does not throw the code, after firing on any of the above cartos if I unscrew the carto the code appears and will not disappear until batts are removed. - Or does it appear when you try to fire the V8?

I have never personally seen a "Ch" code on my V8. I have seen "--" on a few occassions when I've inserted fresh batteries. When that happens, I remove the batteries, wait about 15 seconds, and re-insert the batteries and then I always get the "5.0"

Just tested again and the same thing is happening, thanks for the help guys trying to sort this out, I wouldn't have been surprised to see the code running a Dual Coil or something LR but not at 2.4 ohms + and set to 3 volts. Think it must just have been a 'Friday Afternoon' Ovale :) Will get with Eric to change it out and see what happens with a different unit. ( He has, of course, been very keen to help).

The v8 is a strong vape (can anyone tell me once and for all if this unit uses PWM? I've been assuming that's why it so intense, but not certain of that by any means), so the flavors, to me, seem more intense at a slightly lower voltage.

The V8 is a PWM device. I've looked at the output on the oscilloscope and found the following:

The Peak Voltage, regardless of what setting is selected is 8.61 Volts

The Average Voltage (the effective voltage felt by the coil) is as follows:

Setting = 3 - Average Voltage = 2.73
Setting = 4 - Average Voltage = 3.91
Setting = 5 - Average Voltage = 5.17
Setting = 6 - Average Voltage = 6.08

NOTE: These are unloaded readings, that is no device attached to the V8. I have not made an adapter yet to allow attaching a device to the V8 and taking a reading.

I normally run my V8 at 3.3 whilch yields an Average Voltage of 3.12 Volts.

I run it at 3.3 because if I accidently hit the "down" button it will not roll over to 6.0 and fry the coil.

I've found that even though the Average Voltage is 3.12, because of the PWM it seems to be the equivalent of running 4.0 to 4.5 on my Provari.

Hope this fills in some blanks.

Got my passthrough and so far I like it a lot. The 3.7 and 4.2 settings are perfect for my needs, I don't see myself using the 4.7. Quality on this thing seems decent and the silver color is nice!

Thanks, Eric!

P.S. Do not attempt to run this PT from a cell phone USB charger, they will NOT provide enough current to run at even the lowest setting. I was calculating current, and my sweet spot requires either 3.7v/2.4ohm = 1.55 amp or 4.2v/2.4ohm = 1.75 amps! Is this right?

If this is right, I am going to wait till I get a nicer USB adapter and will not even bother using on my PC anymore...

Here's a testimonial to the flexibility and taste on the V8...

At our vape-getogether last night, Ashton the VL guy and I were chatting and he asked me to help with a atty that he couldn't get flavor or vapor from and he really wanted to try this one juice...but it just didn't taste like much. So, I stuck the 3Ω atty on my V8 and fiddled with it a bit, then started at 3v and worked my way up until I was getting good flavor and hella vapor.

Then, took off my DT and handed it to him. Ya shoulda seen his eyes go wide when he was actually vaping his juice for the first time. We tok note of the voltages, and then he tried it on his LT (I think that's what it was) and adjusted for the difference in PV's..and voila...he was vaping away.

It's a great device. I think at least 3 of us attending had the Ovale V8. For some reason, it appears to have the power to revive things sometimes too. I don't have any empirical proof, but two peoples attys that weren't giving flavor or vapor I stuck on the Ovale and managed to get them working again. It's like a steam cleaning or something...lol
