The makers of Malboro (Altria) are making an electronic cigarette

Altria Group Inc., the largest U.S. tobacco company, said Thursday it will introduce an electronic cigarette this year amid a continuing slump in sales of its top-selling Marlboro brand. more at the link above

I guess it would be good seeing that our elected representatives are in their pockets, so not sure how they could ban ecigs in any way if that also meant banning the marlboro one?

Phillip Morris (Altria group) basically has written most of the tobacco legislation at the Federal level for years. Where this may end up going is legislation being introduced banning online ecig sales and ecig sales only being authorized by licensed wholesalers (ie. traditional tobacco wholesalers). This type of legislation has already been introduced in several states.. Sponsored by RJ Reynolds in some instances. Phillip Morris swings a bigger bat. Next year will likely be a larger battle with Phillip Morris posturing for what it considers to be its birthright to a lions share of the market. Wholesaler trade associations across the country also actively lobby state legislatures as well to pass bills to protect their interests as well, so it is not just Tobacco, Pharmacy and Tobacco control we are fighting. Fortunately, if we show up in numbers at hearings and write our representatives it can make a difference.

Always an interesting crowd. It's right next to the main headquarters of the Self-Realization Fellowship (founded by Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, hence the name 'Swami's')
