Ow,ow,ow...I went on a cleaning spree today and aggravated my back. If I move a certain way, PAIN! I hate when my back acts up.

How was your first day on the job, Sonic? Details, boy, details.

That doesn't sound good! Hope you are feeling better, soon, Lilac!

Good evening DV :)

It's like the first day of school...only now you will get paid...:D I hope you had a great first day, and even if you didn't, you have a job now :thumb:

Um, yes, well, remarkably we have the illegal fireworks in the concrete canyon too :( Unfortunately, they are usually ignited by total nincompoops who set them off in very stupid ways at terrible hours of the night in the middle and it echos through the buildings  I suppose I should be glad that they aren't gunshots, though :D

Our neighbors started last night with the fireworks! Ugh! Same, here about the gunshots! I wouldn't doubt if any were, around here, though!

I'm just grateful I'm not working anymore so those idiots aren't keeping me awake when I have to be at work early the next day!

Ditto! At least when I worked, though, it was during the time they usually set off fireworks around here!

The really good news is that I will be going to a friend's rooftop deck to watch this year's fireworks in comfort instead of pressed up against strangers in a crowd. :)

I envy you! We try sitting on our front porch and can barely see them over the trees, in the distance! We do get to see them if they go up high enough! Enjoy yourself! :)

Don't envy me too hard :) NY has positives and negatives, and sometimes I think the negatives are heavier. But I do know I will have a nice time at a party of my friends :thumb: I hope your fireworks have enough "oomph" for you to see them.;)

We lost 19 Firefighters, the Granite Mountain hotshot crew, last night while they were battling the Yarnell Hill fire about 30 miles south of here. This same crew, the Granite Mountain wildland fire fighting crew, from Prescott had just finished mop up operations on the Doce Fire 8 miles from Prescott.

The lightning caused fire literally exploded yesterday in the high winds, low humidity, and abundance of fuel in an area that had remained untouched for over 10 years. Half of the homes in Yarnell (about 250) have been consumed by the fire which is now moving towards another community (Peeples Valley)

Please remember these firefighters and their families in your prayers.

It is truly a sad day for Prescott.

This loss, as well as the LODDs (Line of Duty Deaths) in Texas, West Webster, NY, and single deaths in other places have been felt all across the country and the world. Emergency Services folks are always aware that they may not return from the next call, and yet they go anyway. Tomorrow, more will go and "dance with the devil" knowing what they could be walking into. This gives rise to the salute that their brothers give them....... "Rest easy, we'll take it from here." If anything of comfort can be taken from this tragedy, it is that these people died doing something they were called to do. They loved their jobs and the task of protecting life and property, in spite of the hardships and dangers. They gave everything in the service of others because that is what they lived and loved to do.

We could all learn something from days like this. Bravery isn't about not having fear. The best firefighters might seem like they aren't afraid of anything. To some, they may seem a little crazy. The reality is that every risk is calculated with everyone going home being the goal. Sometimes the hero loses the bet. But tomorrow, more will go. It's about being afraid and doing what needs to be done anyway. Live your life. Do what you need to do. Do what you WANT to do, and don't let fear keep you from going there. Life is a gift that is not promised from one day to the next. Live today like it was the last one you have. Say things that need to be said, do things that need to be done. Do something that makes you happy. Do something that makes someone else happy. LIVE. And enjoy doing it.

While I'm on my soapbox, I'll take my own advice. Thank you DV'ers for putting some giggles and smiles in my days. I appreciate it, and it reminds me how many good people still exist out there.

That's true! We live in a city that is much smaller than NY, but it seems like most of the benefits of living here are negative! We really want to get out East near Baltimore, MD, or West Virginia, where hubby's family lives. I'm tired of the Midwest! Thank you! I hope I get a chance to go out this year! Hubby goes back to work that night and might have to leave before the fireworks even start! I don't stay outside without him, especially at night! Don't even trust our neighbors, let alone the neighborhood!

That was a very thoughtful post, Firechick, and clearly comes from experience and wisdom. We are constantly reminded of the sentiments you expressed here in NY, especially after 9/11.

Tina, I personally like some parts of Baltimore and would love the idea of living there myself (some parts of Baltimore scare me more than the bad parts of NYC:ohmy:). West Virginia....well, not so much. That might be because I lived in Virginia for many years, though.

His uncle is from WV and we've talked with him about our idea, but he says SC has a lower cost of living if we really want to move out East. I don't want to be that far down south, though. I am hoping that once I graduate, I can look for a job near Baltimore, MD, in the field of Web Design. Not sure that'll happen, but it's a goal I have! :)

I lived in Springfield VA for 8 months and that was enough... I'll stay here on the west coast. It's much cooler in the summer typically and not nearly as muggy... Plus no offense and not including any of you but people out there were just plain rude... :screwy:

IDK about where hubby's family is. It's like that here, too, though. Too much rudeness! My hubby calls it the "Me Syndrome." I just get rude back to people. Especially, if I'm crabby and in pain. I use a walker, with wheels and a seat to rest in when needed, but still people don't like to move their :censored: to let me through.

I know I have to use those motorized scooters when I got to the store and people just rush right past me or in front of me like I'm not even there and then I start talking to my husband really loud about rude you know who's <insert bad word here > and that that's it I've had it I'm just going to start running people over! I never had that problem when I was walking in stores because I was just under 6 feet tall... Now I'm 5'10" and down in that stupid cart and people just walk all over me... Till I get peeved and stand up... That's why for the most part I stick to shopping in my quiet little town of Tenino with one grade school and a 4 grade middle school and one high school... The police department represents 4 towns not just ours lol literally downtown is about a half mile long

Yea, they do tend to walk in front of you when you're in those carts! They don't seem to realize that they don't stop on a dime, either! My husband and I don't go to the Walmart in our city, as there are usually never any carts and the customers and employees are very rude, anyway. We go to the one he works at, in a town not far away, most the time. He hates it, because it's usually on his day off. At least I don't have to deal with rude employees, just customers that don't watch where they are going!

Lol Yea, I've been in a wheelchair since 8th grade (I'm 27 now) and I get so upset with people! I can fly down a hallway and don't feel like I should have to stop and look both ways before I cross another hallway, I mean really, its like a highway people, you walk on the RIGHT side, not the LEFT side.

I just stick with my little town if I can help it... If I'm having a bad pain day I've had the cashier's even offer to do my shopping for me... You just can't beat small town attitude and people getting to know you.

That is true! Walmart states they will help you, but I can't see how with no extra employees. I only go out with my husband, as I don't drive yet.

No way! You're supposed to drive on the right side, too? Well, at least in America! ;) Just messing with ya! My hubby gets irritated when driving the interstate, as most the time people will be speeding when in the right lane. Then they'll tail end him, as if he's supposed to get over! Um...that's what the left lane is for, idiots...passing those who are doing the speed limit! :p

Now we want to hear every details of how awesome you did and pics of the new office, what ya wore, your named executibe parkin spot, etc. etc. Thank you for your cooperation in dis matter :D

Oooh...executibe parkin!! I wish!! :D The day went really well, I really like it so far... Not much to show yet as the office is new, and not many employees yet (new branch of national company). I'll be travelling to Columbus, Ohio next week for some extensive training, so that's something to look forward to... sorta (I hate airports, but love flying  ). It's business casual, so I wore khakis and a blue pinstripe button down oxford shirt. :) Sorry, no photos, press is not allowed.

And now I'm off to bed (I'm EXHAUSTED!)...
