I think it's a bird... To be fair, my little dog (rescue from the desert) tended to lay his food out in a line to 'attract" birds and then eat them. It wasn't good, his favorite "treat' is baby quail, they get buried in the desert and "hatch" into his mouth, pretty much.

It was a sad year that he ate ALL the babies, the momma quail mourned for days.....
