Not much cheaper, throw in 2 batteries and a charger and its in the same ballpark. If you have your own batteries and charger you could always just buy the shell, cone and switch for about 28$ for the E-power. But im not sure how it will be a true VV with a 3.7 volt batt.

I'm very curious to if a 4.8 NiMh batt will work in one of these. I'll buy the shell and switch and the 4.8 batts.

the 4.8v battery should work, but it won't give you exactly what you're looking for. There's even a 14650 version of the 4.8v nimh battery.. but here's the problem using NiMH batteries...

Their voltage drops considerably under the loads required of an e-cig.. WillyB showed me a picture of a 4.8v NiMH pack with a 2.0ohm load... it dropped to...wait for it....

3.7v under load

By using a boost chip I would assume

Since dual coils carts seem to be all the rage right now, and it is whispered that they work better at or above 5 volts. I hereby am requesting a Varible Volt switch for the E-Power 18650.

We can make this into a Petition...and hope "Smoktech" will work on it. :vapor:

It's already in the works. Don't know the particulars right now, though...

I was going to get an NOEGO from him but only comes with the unit. I don't have batteries and stuff. and I got a hell of a deal on the 18650 E-power kit along with a 5 pack of dual coil cartos from Hoosier for $45. Couldn't pass it up.

That was a good buy. Smoketek had the E-Power on sale yesterday for 37.95. You might still get it for close to that with his cool make an offer option. E-Power 14650 Complete Kit:2cool:

Just FYI sort of deal.... The NoEgo and the e-power are pretty much the exact same unit. The NoEgo is just purchased OEM, rebranded and all, from smok-tech... so they are the same units.

Now, getting that out of the way.. if there ever IS a switch unit that supports VV/5v, it's going to be for the 18650 version... I do not forsee the stock 14650 battery being able to drive a boost chip to any decent voltages for any decent period of time.

Stacking batteries could net you higher voltage, but who knows if the switch/mosfet is able to handle it... at your own risk.

Something I don't like about my Epower, the switch wears out on me. This could just be something to do with my acidic sweaty hands, I'm sure the same would happen with another device like an ego or riva or something.

I have black tape around the worse part, and didn't want to take it off for the pic.... this was something I just took and felt like adding to the thread.

Just my 2 cents because I'd love to see this as well.

To clarify on some misconceptions I've seen here, it would have to be the 18650 unit because of battery constraints.
The 18650 could push a booster chip to get a set 5v's or VV. Stacked 18350's could work for regulated VV with the
switch housing making up the extra 5mm's or so for the stacked batts.

As for the switch, it is not extra voltage that the switch has to handle, it is the higher amperage drawn by atty/carto
at higher voltages. Not sure what the current switch is rated at but it should be able to handle reg or HV atty/cartos.
It wouldn't be able to handle LR or DC at higher voltages. I have seen other users post that the Provari can't be
adjusted much over 4v's with a DC because the protection circuits kick in. Of course, if they manage to cram in the
proper mosfet, that would eliminate the problem with the switch.
