I hear you. Our beloved Sakai who we put down the week after we got married took a major toll on us. When we took the kittens into the vet last week for a checkup, they reminded me I commented on our way out after saying goodbye to Sakai that I was done. Sakai cost close to $8K in her last 6 weeks. It clearly didn't work out the way I figured and here I am typing as I watch both Emi and Eri flying all over the place having fun. And it warms my heart and makes me laugh. But I'm also realistic. I'm guessing these will be the last kittens we'll have. By the time we have to say goodbye to them, we could both be in our 80s and at that point, it would be irresponsible of us to bring kittens home again. So I will love and cherish these kittens with every fiber of my being. Yes I will!
I was tested when I found that kitten in my engine compartment a few months ago. Just a sweet little kitten as friendly as can be (with a girly pink collar that was trying its hardest to soften me up). But I never hesitated or had a second thought about finding her a new home. Confirmed to me that I'm ready to be petless.

There's no question they become part of the family. And I've always adhered to the belief that if you take on a pet then you have to take care of them to the best of your ability (even though it wasn't my decision to have these animals). If this cat had belonged to a poor family there is no way they could have afforded to pay the health bills and they would have been forced to put her down. And that's fine. Pet owners have to do what they can and no more. I was able to afford it so I paid it. I did what was right and have no guilt. And she was only one of three cats that had major, expensive health issues. It has worn me down financially and emotionally not to mention the hours and hours and hours nursing them and administering medications, etc... After this 15 year old goes I just absolutely have to have a break from pets. I want to know what it's like not having to administer meds or walk in a barf pile...after 24 years of consecutive cat ownership.

We are going through this right now, with one bros. gone and the other down to an estimated Four weeks left to live. It's hard.

He's still purring when he gets his pets. He is still eating and drinking a bit.

Frankly, I would be putting him down at this point, but Diana is wanting to spend a bit more time with him.

Can't blame her. He's a good guy to spend time with.

We disagree on whether or not to get kitties soon after he passes.

I could use a break.

Once a kitten made into my home, I'm not sure either of us could have re-homed her.......But I'm sure the new home you found was a nice and loving one and that's the most important thing.

Rut Roh......We're in trouble! We fully expected the kittens to find their way to the bed when they got older, but this is what I woke up to this morning......LOL

I'd be careful around Emi. She's plotting something.

I'm sorry to see you are going through this. It's unbelievably hard to say goodbye. As to if and when you'll be ready for new kittens, I was adamant that it would be looooooong time before we did. It took less than 2 months and I was truly ready. But Charlie was not. I had to push for them. Of course the second he held them in his arms, he was head over heels and now he can't imagine not having them in our lives.

You are SO right. I can look in her eyes and know she's about to pounce on something. She's actually quite comical. We bought all these expensive toys to have when they arrived. The vet gave us 3 little mice, that prolly cost a couple pennies apiece. She plays with those blasted inexpensive mice and carries them in her mouth all over the house. One things for sure, she is very strong willed.

"Pounce on something?" Like your life insurance policy? Don't underestimate her.

Nah, she likes food too much and she has definitely figured out where food comes from. Yes she has!!

Going to sleep town now. See you all in the morning!

It's tough, no doubt. The last act of love we can give them is to put them down before they suffer. It's also the greatest act of love we can give them. It's not always easy to tell with cats either. They don't show pain much. They kind of have to tell you. They like to isolate themselves when they are ready to go. Hang in there!

She did go to a nice home. An older couple who just lost their cat (husband ran it over mistakenly). They have two dogs. The kitten gets along real good with one of them and the other has nothing to do with it. But they are real happy and so is the kitten. I would have kept the kitten if I could not have found a good home for her.

If that's the case just let it play out. Cloud9 retreated not FP. You posted your opinion and I posted mine. Peace and vape on.
What, that I "should quit vapin ASAP!!!" because I no longer want to try Five Pawns? Thank you for your input...

I never planned on trying 5 Pawns anyway, not my flavor profile.

neener_ani.gif

We have a local vape shop, kind of seedy, dark and dreary, but they carry Five Pawns, so I went in and tried every flavor. Now admittedly, they use crappy, poorly charged eGo's with old clearomizers on them for tasting, so while it's highly possible this is why my experience wasn't good, but I just didn't find them to my liking. I may buy a bottle of Gambit to try as the idea of vaping an Apple Pie with Cinnamon and Vanilla does sound kind of nice........

morning P3 peeps ... Happy Canada Day :vapor:

And a Happy Canada to you Willy!
