So Kitten Update: We know where she is, but we can't get to her. We had to leave the condo for a couple hours to have dinner with my brother and sister in law. We would have closed up Eri in the laundry room, but we were afraid to do that since we didn't want to close Emi out in case she came out. We just got home and neither kitten were to be found. All of the sudden, Eri came out from an opening underneath the kitchen cabinets. So we know she was in there with Emi, but Emi is still not budging. We'll give it until tomorrow and if the little girl doesn't come out on her own, we're going to have to pay someone to cut a hole in the cabinet so we can get her out. As soon as we get her out of there, we'll seal that thing up. Yes we will.

Thanks for the update, RB. Please keep us looped in, and let us know when she surfaces. We're all sending lots of calming thoughts Emi's way. And yours, too!

Thanks.......it's very frustrating to know where she is and not be able to get to her. Frightening is more like it.

she will be Ok ... kinda makes her arrival a bit dramatic, something you guys will joke about years from now.

I do hope she makes her grand appearance tonite though.

I was actually hoping Eri would find Emi and tell her it's OK out here. Eri is now sound asleep in Charlie's lap and Emi is still in the cabinet. She hasn't eaten a thing since we brought her home yesterday afternoon. I would have hoped she'd be hungry by now. I worry because cats are known for losing their appetite and not getting it back.

If she doesn't make an appearance by tomorrow, the cabinet is going to cut open. Such fun and yes, I do hope we can laugh about it in the future.

At least you know where she is, Id put some wet food ( at least it contains more water) there close to the inside of the opening. Just a little to let her get to it. Do that a couple times to calm her a bit. Then put it right outside the opening to see if she comes out, and also put a bowl of water. Dont try to get her out right away. You dont want to scare her and let her associate feeding and fear. Put a litter box close too.

She will come out and then feel comfort. Then when she seems a bit more at ease, make your presence felt but again, not as a surprise attack, even though you will be tempted to. What we see as help , she sees as a giant thing she is already afraid of coming at her.

I know this sounds like over kill, but we have to put ourselves at their level in all ways. So much change so fast for the little thing that only knew on place all her short life.

You might also watch some videos on youtube and notice how kittens and mom act and "talk" to each other. Mom cats do an odd little chirp, purr meow. If you can practice, maybe you can start "calling" her and see if that comforts her ans she associates that comfort/ love call with you.?

Sorry if I come off weird, but I do tend to communicate to animals at their level when many dont see it.

Good luck

I've put canned food with the strongest scent I can near the opening. I get that to her, I'm just a giant monster. The blue kitty has adjusted so quickly and seeks our company. Emi is clearly going to take some time to feel comfort. I can tell you that when we get her out of that blasted cabinet, it's going to be sealed up tight so she can't get back in it.

You are there and we are not, so perhaps easier for us to have faith, right now. But I do have faith. Anavidfan's idea to put wet food right inside the opening and water right outside sounds like a good one. Perhaps you might let Eri hang with her sister, as well ...

ETA: I was posting as you were. I bet she eats some of the food! I'm so sorry you and Charlie are having to go through this.

I hope that in no way I came off as "judgy" I know its easier to think when one is not worried and afraid. I probably would have been tearing my way in there already and freaked out in a panic. I dont know if I could wait. But I do tend to freak out.

I just hope that it helps you to know we are out here thinking and hoping the best. I know how much I love my little furry "monster". Just the fact that my new little one looks so much like my first kitty makes me even more paranoid of any little odd behavior or possible illness because the cat she looks like was always so sickly and died so young.

Ive only had 2 other cats in my life and the second one we had for 23 years and he was adult when he found us and in such perfect health for most of his life, I did not worry.

We are out here, and Im here most of the night, in case you need to share. :)

LOL, when I think about all the poor unwanteds running around the streets and somehow they make it to adulthood.
My little one ( now almost 2 years) was out on the streets and she could not have been more than 6 weeks old when she jumped out the the bushes and followed my son home one night.

She was very skittish, but used to humans as she sought my son out and followed him home.

He told me there was a kitty outside and he did not want to scare her on to the street. So I went out with a piece of turkey and sat out there for half an hour till she took it from my hand. I had my son go out an get another piece and thats when I scooped her up and took her inside and put her down.

I had not even noticed she had punctured my finger when she took the turkey, she was bony, and dirty. She obviously was humanized, because she realized she was safe right away and jumped into my arms and purred. I gave her a bath and fed her again. She moaned like a little cougar cub that night, and has never moaned like that again.

You guys either type too much, or, I am not able to keep up due to life - am only 435 posts behind now. I guess I live at a different speed, like those getting the daily paper a week late :)

Don't feel bad. It's all I can do to keep up with what goes on in here!

We're having absolutely outrageous weather, tonight. We've been under two tornado warnings in the last 3 hours, a flood watch (which is a bit worrisome, as our house is 60 feet from the banks of the Potomac River), and crazy fierce thunderstorms. I feel like I'm experiencing The Perfect Storm, firsthand! I'm desperate to get 6 attys rewicked, but the power keeps going out. Thank Heaven for a passel of charged batteries and a couple of Subtank minis!
