A different time, when the company was new, didn't have any B&M dealers and was trying very hard to ensure their small customer base stayed with them. Different time and day altogether. You can hope, and I'll be happy for you if they eventually offer some retrofitting, but they've said they don't plan to, so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't.

I doubt they will myself, and I'm getting a P3. I was just saying that something like that wouldn't be unheard of. I think(conjecture) part of the reason they won't is probably because they consider the sloped, teardrop top cap is kind of "iconic". In the manner that seeing that top cap makes it instantly recognizable as a Provari.

Oh I totally agree. I was being satirical(I don't think that's the word I'm wanting).
I gotcha! Hahaha!
Maybe facetious?
(Fuh-see-shuss) No idea if I spelled it right.

Here are my thoughts on the retrofit:

The P3 is the next generation, or at least the foundation of that generation.
I agree, a top cap upgrade for older models would make them money, but it would also defeat the purpose of Provape releasing a new product.
They haven't spent all this time designing a new top cap for the 2nd Gen bodies...they've spent it designing a new, complete device. For them to spend the time-money-blood-sweat-tears on the P3, and then turn around and offer such a big upgrade for older models, would be moving backwards. They're trying to move forward, and that's what the versatile top cap on the P3 leans towards. To retrofit older models, in order to make them compatible with future stuff (new P3 threaded atomizers) would, again, defeat the purpose of designing the P3.
I can see where it makes some people feel bad/sad/mad...cuz I've got two v2.5's myself. But hey, if all anyone can say about the 2nd (and even 1st) Gen Provaris, is that they are TOO durable...well that's a good thing. Yes, they've made extremely tough devices, that are standing the test(s) of time. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't look to the future. Putting the effort into making sure the v2.5's can keep up with the future is less logical than simply developing a new device.

I'm not Provape, nor do I have any secret insider information...but I wouldn't expect to see an upgrade offered for the 2nd Gen bodies. The P3's chip is new, it rides in a different chassis, has moved the display and button slightly (from previous models), and therefore...probably has different (physical/functional) internal connections than the 2nd Gen top cap.

If it was my company and we could make a profit retrofitting ... it would be a done deal.

particularly, if we were headed in the direction of new threading ... but hey, I'm not in the boardroom.

Edit: well if Provape won't do it ... maybe someone else will.

There are an awful lot of out-of-warranty v2s and v2.5s ... maybe the Provari has never been cloned ... however, could the new top cap be?

Willy, we are among many who wish it was our company...but thankfully, it's not!
Because if anything had been done differently, Provape may not have turned out to be the company they are! And I, for one, am certainly glad they are who they are!!!

It sucks that the 2nd Gen is not being forced into the past, but will logically go there. But hey...like I said, at least if the worst thing you can say about the previous generations, is that they held up TOO well, you don't have much of a problem!
I feel like they've definitely made the right decision to take steps towards the future, and have even taken a big leap in trying to standardize a new thread system. That takes big...um...marbles. But along with stepping up in that respect, and creating a device that will take us to the next level/generation of vaping...they've committed to still supporting the previous generations. And that says a lot.
Yeah, lots of other companies and industries will support older models of their respective products, but we all know "vape years" move FAST.

I'll split the price of a P3 with you if you're a solder master.
Take the top cap for your 2.5 and put the V2 top cap on the P3 for me. What a deal! Everyone's happy! :)

I like my V2 top cap and my Kir Fanis tanks work perfectly on them with no additional tank ring.

I do have an idea for a P3 milled design feature though

Vape360 - I played with the P3 beta again, and have some more questions and feedback.

There's dark grease on the extension rings. Usually that's not a good idea because it hinders connectivity, unless it's dielectric grease (which is rather expensive). Will the production units be greased as well? I noticed after taking it all apart, my fingers were greasy, and I made a mess of the tubes.

The extension ring without the groove seemed to have a very slightly different finish and didn't match as well as the one with the groove. Removing it, leaving the other extension ring, matched the main tube better. Is that just a reality of the hand-finished process, where parts are media blasted at different times? Also, the shop had a satin silver v2.5 extension cap, which had a noticeably different finish. Obviously both pieces were finished at very different times. Is using a v2.5 extension cap OK or not recommended? I noticed they're different heights when configured with all P3 parts vs v2.5 endcap. I have an endcap on my v2.5 - never cared for the silver end, but then again my v2.5 is all black...

The top cap outer ring that says "Made in U.S.A." bothers me a bit - it's not proper English. I'm a stickler like that, much to the dismay of some people... I also noticed the box says "Made in the USA" (with the "the"). Don't suppose there's time to make any changes so close to release though. Should you ever change the ring and add the "the", I'd get another one. Little things...

After reading someone else's post about the display window sticking out a bit, I specifically looked for that, and yes, it does - and the edges are sharp too. I didn't notice that the first couple times I played with it, but once you realize it, it's obvious. I'll take that over the 2 screws any day though.

I'm heading to ECC this weekend - wonder what the chances of finding production units for sale at the show are? ;)

PS - The more I see the beta, the more I like the diamonds. Trying to imagine what it'd look like without them, it seems a bit boring compared to the teardrops and crop circles of the v2.5

They wouldn't necessarily need to make a full on top cap upgrade...

They could make a P3 compatible adapter that is skirted to conform to the top cap of a V1/2/2.5, screws in to the ProVari 510 connector, and BAM you now have P3 threading on your original ProVari... They could even make it where the center pin of the adapter is a floating pin... Effectively a P3 top cap with a skirt and 510 connection that will thread right on to the top of a ProVari / ProVari Mini

No need to break it open, no need to send it in, no need to void warranties... Just machine a little part, and sell them to whoever wants them...

But I don't blame them for holding off on that just yet... No need to right now until they get a feel for whether or not the P3 threading is going to take hold in the market. At this point, that entire design concept COULD end up being a complete flop. But sometimes you gotta risk it to get the biscuit. The P3 threading is a risky move... If nobody does anything with it, what's the point of retrofitting or making an adapter?

To say that ProVape would leave us ProVari owners out in the cold I think might be underestimating just how much ProVape appreciates our patronage as much as we enjoy their product.

I think if the P3 connection ends up becoming a wild success, they will offer an adapter for us old school ProVari owners... It's not like we WON'T have a P3, I mean come on who isn't buying one? LoL You can say you're not, but if you're in this thread You're getting one. And you know it! But even if I have a new P3, that doesn't mean I won't want to use whatever new atomizers come out for the P3 connection on my old school ProVari... Considering what the did for V1 users, I just can't imagine they would leave all of us original owners, NAY, the backbone of this company (US) wanting for anything that simple to make...

They also said about a year ago that they had no plans to make a Variable Wattage device... The P3 was 2 years in development :) Was it a bold faced lie when they said they had no plans to make one? Or a strategic move on their part cause they weren't anywhere near ready to go to market? We know now, they were indeed planning to make a VW device, they just couldn't say anything at the time...

You never show all your cards!

Are the circuit boards on the P3 being held in with glue?

Negative, Fringe.
I saw a picture, or part of a video, where it shows the P3 chip is riding in some kind of (plastic) little bridge or clip, that fits into the tube...it was black...which is about the only other detail I can remember.
And I think Provape made a point of mentioning "no more glue" in a post somewhere...

I'm calling this right now. I estimate that once the Provari 3 is officially released, there will be such an adapter produced by a third party inside of 3 months.

EDIT: Actually, I estimate that once a successful atomizer is produced using the P3 threading, an adapter will be produced by a third party inside of 1 month. Along with adapters for various other mods as well.

I like the idea of a P3 threading adapter.
I imagine it looking/working much like the Hippo caps from Atmistique...
My only thought on that is: The P3 threading was created for hybrid purposes...
Wouldn't such an adapter be the opposite of that?

I agree! I think ProVape would be wise to already have this in the works... CNC programs drawn up and pump out a few prototypes at the machine shop... Get ready for the tsunami... If ProVape makes one, I'm OBVIOUSLY buying one from them before any third party manufacturer. That's just me though

Perhaps...

Consider this... When you use a well machined beauty ring on the top of a ProVari, you can get a very Hybrid-ish look. Z-Atty Pro, for example, skirt built in, looks great. With a well machined adapter that conforms perfectly to the top cap of a ProVari, I believe you can make a rock solid cap that threads into the 510 connection, leaving a near seamless transition between the adapter and the provari body. If the P3 threading of the adapter is exactly the same as the P3 itself, the atty you attach to it would sit flush and seamless with the top of the adapter the same as it would on top of a P3.

I think it's a brilliant idea... But I don't sit in their board room! :D

I'm looking to move though, ProVape, where do I send in my application? Haha
