I did celebrate guy fawkes in england many years ago when i worked there for a short period. I couldn'nt believe the rocket i was allowed to buy at the shops. Here anything fireworks/ fire rockets is banned & illegal, and are only displayed at special city functions like the melbourne show or new years eve under controlled settings. Halloween used to be celebrated here but then things started happening with children going missing, and people tainting lollies, it made a fun time turn into a nightmare. Its a tradition that is becoming just another day. Sad really, some of us do try though and make it fun for the nephews. Friends of our drives her kids round to family & friends in the area.

You should see the size of the ones you can buy now! None of this newsagent family-safe stuff. You get dedicated shops that spring up in October (then disappear just as quickly!) that sell things that resemble missiles! Sure teaches you some respect for the things. When I lived down south, Lewes Bonfire Night was unmissable.
As for the stopping of Hallowe'en here, yes, it's sad and shocking when you hear of some of the things that happened. I, of course, now live in a place where All Hallows Eve will always get bad press - Adelaide, The City Of Churches!
