Since we seem to be off-topic this evening, I'll share something I've been doing recently. Back at the end of October, I gave the barn owner a gift of a picture I had drawn of her horse from a photo I took. She was very enthusiastic about it and said I should try to sell portraits of people's horses. I was skeptical, thinking that it sounds good, but it's not that easy. But she hired me to do some pictures, and I got some others, and before Christmas, I was fairly busy. Granted, it wasn't enough to live on, but I actually made some money. Recently, I tried doing my brother's dog, and it came out really well. If I can expand from horses to dogs and maybe cats (have to try one yet), then I'd have a larger clientele. I'm lousy at portraits of people, but customers keep wanting me to put people into their pictures! Any hints about doing better portraits? Rave, I know you were an animal artist. Did you get requests for people, and what did you do about it? Any hints or someone just starting out? My medium is pastel, since it's cheap compared to oils, and I have the equipment already, though I bought more as I saw a need. So if you want to see the pictures I've done so far, they are on my Facebook page, and even if you aren't on Facebook, you should be able to view them with this link: Artwork | Facebook

Any suggestins or coments gratefully received.

Very nice!

Good morning, all!

I missed quite a bit I see! I'm still around and vaping! I've just been busy with school, so you might not see me around much. I'm only taking one class this session, but I seem to have to give it my undivided attention. It's a computer design course. We're learning how to use Adobe programs, which I've never worked with before. My dream job is to design web sites, though, so it'll come in handy!

I hope everyone is doing well! Strange winter we're having here in Southern Wisconsin. Not much snow, if so, it's not sticking around. I like it that way, though! :)

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week! I'll try to stop by again, soon! :)

I hate the cold and despise the snow. But around here when we have warmish winters, come springtime, the spiders are HUGE. It's like they use the mild temps to grow to monstrous proportions, at least by Michigan standards. Last year was brutal cold all winter, so this winter has been enjoyable so far.

*Begin rant*
My :censored: mailman didn't deliver my :censored: package yesterday. It says "Delivery status not updated". Who knew vaping would be so stressful and that I'd develop this strange love/hate relationship with USPS. Grrrrr....

Good morning all!

I got my first set of blank volt cartos in yesterday, and tried filling with Bounty Hunter (65/35 PG/VG). It seemed to soak in well (drip method), used about 20 drops, waited 30 min or so, and tried it out. It started out good, but after about 10-20 puffs I'm getting the dreaded burnt taste. (not chain-vaping it either)

I tried another, same way, but also did the "thermometer shake" while filling. Same problem.

Filled 2 more, same method; let sit overnight and tried this morning. Same problem.

So I've burned 4 cartos already. Any ideas? Do I need to thin the liquid to make this work?

Oh man - That stinks! :( It's my guess that it's just so thick that it isn't wicking well. Since I only use Volt nicquids or those that I DIY myself at 90/10, I've never experienced this problem. I'm sure that others have encountered this with Volts that can help you better. The only time I've had such a wicking problem was with 3ml Leo cartos. To solve the problem, I pulled up the outside corner of the carto batting and cut off about 1/2" and carefully tucked everything else back in place. Since Volts are sooo much smaller, it would have to be less taken off. I'd only do this as a last resort though. You could possibly thin your nicquid with PGA, but that's gonna cut the flavor.

Drip filling thick juice would need to sit for a while, possibly overnight, but once burnt the carto may keep the taste. Try cleaning the "burnt" may help.

Use the condom method. This will insure even filling of the material. There is a video of this on youtube and here in the forum, but I don't have the time to dredge it up, sorry.

Fill a carto condom ( OK OK!! Bootie!!) (and NOT the "coned" one!!) halfway with juice. Carefully press in the carto threaded end into the condom til seated. Juice should be present just above the batting or it should at least look wet. Allow a mintue or 2 to soak. Remove condom and replace excess juice back into the bottle. Clean threaded base with q-tip or cloth with water or alcohol. Lightly blow thru the base and into a towel, napkin, etc... to remove excess licquid from central tube. Not from the top or you blow too much juice out of the batting. You just want to clear the tube. If base is clean, replace plug or drip tip and vape away!

I use a 14ga blunt tip needle down the central tube (GENTLY!!) to fill and the "coned" condom on the bottom.

Thanks rave and fishman

I thought about trying the condom method; just looks messy. I thought filling and letting it sit overnight should have worked fine, but it didn't.

My bounty hunter juice showed up in the mail before my blanks, so I tried some out using an empty RY4 carto I had laying around. It worked perfectly with it; filled it 2 or 3 times without a problem. (tastes amazing too btw!)
