Since we seem to be off-topic this evening, I'll share something I've been doing recently. Back at the end of October, I gave the barn owner a gift of a picture I had drawn of her horse from a photo I took. She was very enthusiastic about it and said I should try to sell portraits of people's horses. I was skeptical, thinking that it sounds good, but it's not that easy. But she hired me to do some pictures, and I got some others, and before Christmas, I was fairly busy. Granted, it wasn't enough to live on, but I actually made some money. Recently, I tried doing my brother's dog, and it came out really well. If I can expand from horses to dogs and maybe cats (have to try one yet), then I'd have a larger clientele. I'm lousy at portraits of people, but customers keep wanting me to put people into their pictures! Any hints about doing better portraits? Rave, I know you were an animal artist. Did you get requests for people, and what did you do about it? Any hints or someone just starting out? My medium is pastel, since it's cheap compared to oils, and I have the equipment already, though I bought more as I saw a need. So if you want to see the pictures I've done so far, they are on my Facebook page, and even if you aren't on Facebook, you should be able to view them with this link:
