Here, there, everywhere!
OK, here's another photo from my area, just for your vaping 6-month anniversary.

This is Watkins Glen, another beautiful gorge with trails you can walk and view the many waterfalls along the way.

SWEET!!!! Is it summer yet? I wanna go swimming and climbing!

Thank you!
and here I thought New York was all buildings and traffic.

You're welcome. New York City is all buildings and traffic, but there's a lot of wilderness in NY State. Even in NYC, there are parks and little out-of-the way places you can go, like Breezy Point, right on the water, and I used to go to New Jersey to hike a lot when I lived in NYC. Just across the George Washington Bridge is the Palisades, which is a tall cliff extending for miles north and overlooking the Hudson River. Farther out into NJ, we hiked in the Ramapo Mountains. Lots of wilderness out that way.

Actually - Thank You Meddog. I was feeling pretty silly about posting these pictures. I mean, you folks are out and about all day, and you know what trees look like. Most probably you've seen much prettier scenes than these this fall. But I haven't been away from my home in over two weeks. I was going to go out today, but my bod is not cooperating. This is my world. It takes my breath away, and I just wanted to share it with my friends.

Don't! :) These are beautiful pictures. I wish my region had color like this in the fall, but we don't. The most color I see is in the spring, when the trees and flowers begin to bloom.

Dude... Is it me, or am I the only one that doesn't get to look at beautiful trees, mountains, deer, and rivers everyday. I love L.A., but I hate it at the same time. Everyone lives in their concrete bubble, then gets in their bubble car, and sits in bubble traffic, then works in their skyscraper bubble and repeats the process the next day.
BTW... Today was a special day... Our President graced us with his presence and caused an extra hour in peak traffic this morning! YAY!

No, it's not just you. If I want to enjoy anything but suburbia and mini-malls, I have to take a drive outside my city.

Gorgeous pictures, Everybody! :) I don't have any pictures that I've taken of my hometown, but I do have some pictures that I have taken on my travels in California.

Highway 1, somewhere between San Simeon and Monterey

A state park near Angel's Camp, California

The picture was taken from my sister-in-law's truck because the snow kept falling from the trees in huge, dangerous clumps.

Gorgeous shots! Route 1 along the Pacific is probably the most scenic highway in the US. The views are gorgeous all along it. And I bet lots of people don't think of snow and California in the same sentence. They forget the Sierras. Now you need to give us a picture of the giant redwoods. And the seals on the rocks. And the lone cypress at Monterey. And what about those rolling hills in the East Bay area near SF with the twisted oak trees? I'm most familiar with the Bay Area, but I bet there are other places just as lovely. The wine country, for instance. Though we have our own wine country right here. NY State is only 2nd to California in wine production. People used to sneer at NY wine, but it's getting better all the time, as is CA wine.

So I was thinking about the beauty that is all around us. Here is my backyard this morning as seen when the sun was coming up. You can see my fence and birdhouse in the forground and the houses of another subdivision in the background. It's actually a drainage ditch that has overgrown, but it's still really pretty to me.

That is very pretty - so serene, especially with the morning mist. Ever get any martins in that house? Thanks! :)

Rave - Do you have that photoshop pic of eyebedam yet or can I just use the photo without the Volt in it?

Uncle - Can i get you to post your profile photo in this thread? When I save it out of a PM it flattens it - and I mean it FLATTENS it???

Looks like you've got a beautiful environment too! And wide open spaces for the two in the last photo to run around in.

It sounds to me like eyebedam is going to try to get different pics because trying to PShop a Volt into the dark-haired pic wouldn't look very natural without a hand holdin' it. I'm going to be working on a pic for Uncle tomorrow.

There's a place on my land that is very precious to me. It's almost spiritual in the way that it makes me feel. Just about the only way to get to it is to walk the creek for quite a distance which is not an option for me anymore. The cliffs are about 125' high in some places and are composed of suede blue slate and rusty limestone loaded with fossils. Kingfishers and bank swallows and hummingbirds are my only companions when I'm there. The creek bottom is slate washed clean of dirt, so it was a beautiful place to bathe when we camped here before we made it our permanent home. The brightness of the sun makes everything look washed out, so it dosen't nearly do "The Cliffs" justice.

It's just a short video:

Yeah - I know. I wobbled.

You're right about the snow. I live about four hours away from Lake Tahoe, which is a popular place for skiing as well as summer recreation. Oh, and let's not forget about the casinos. ;)

I've only been to Napa once, when my husband's friend got married. Beautiful place.
My husband and I went to Monterey recently to have dinner on the wharf. Other than that, we like to go to the aquarium out there.

One of my favorite places to go is Moro Bay and Hearst Castle. The former is a peaceful, artsy town. And the castle is something that everyone should see. The place is huge and full of amazing architecture and art.

Interesting that you have geology so similar to ours. The gorges here are made of shale, soft slate, and they are loaded with fossils, too. It's a very pretty creek, and I was impressed with how steady your had was.
